Long outer barrel for a shorter inner barrel

Hey guys, i got a Prometheus 363mm inner barrel and a 14.5" outer barrel for my M4. If I decide to get a longer outer barrel, do i also have to get a longer inner barrel? The reason why im asking is beceause if the inner barrel is shorter, would the bb hit inside the outer barrel?

I dont understand why you wouldnt just get an inner barrel that would fit the outer barrel?

it would make sense to make the inner longer yes, you may need to put a sleeve around the inner barrel to ensure that it stays centered in the now longer outer barrel to avoid something like bb's hitting the outer

The reason why im asking is because I want to easily swap out the upper receiver/front end of the gun according to the situation. If i add a longer barrel, then im going to have to change the cylinder in the gear box as well which can be a pain/unpractical before games. I know that i need to match the clinder with the inner barrel length.

well it depends what the two lengths of inner barrel are.

You don't have to swap the cylinder, you'll just have an FPS loss.
I did it with my 590mm normal barrel and and 363mm CQB barrel in my AUG.

won't affect the accuracy much adding length to the inner barrel. This has been proven quite a long time ago.

anything over 300mm, the difference is minimal, so it's not a bad idea keeping it 363(If you don't want to spend the extra bucks buying a longer one).

Adding a longer one will give you better FPS and slightly more range, however. But if you are already pushing the FPS limit with 363, it will go above limit with a little boost.

I always like having my inner barrel at least 20mm shorter than the outer barrel because this way dust/dirt is difficult to find it's way inside the inner barrel during the game, if you have inner barrel sticking out into the flash hider, the chance greatly increases.

it should then also have slightly more wear on your mechbox shell, and the sound would be slightly louder. (if you have a full cylinder with a short barrel I mean)
I doubt if you get a 510mm outer, that the BB would fly out of trajectory far enough to strike the inside, especially from a prommy barrel. It didn't happen with a test TM 363 in a 510 outer.

Why even bother getting a longer outer "depending on the situation" if it's going o be 100% the same as the shorter outer setup.

No, it wont be. Let me see if I can explain myself better, perhaps I wasn't clear. Currently, I have standard 14.5" outer barrel, 363 inner barrel, with an 8" RIS for my M4 (SETUP 1). Im planning on getting a longer outer barrel, and a longer Larue RIS (SETUP 2), so im wondering if I can use my 363 inner barrel in this setup because im worried that the bb will hit the outer barrel. Yes, i can just get a longer inner barrel for SETUP 2, but i dont want to if I dont have to ($$). Ultimately, I want to be able to swap between SETUP 1 and SETUP 2 with ease.

For game situations where I want a longer (outdoors) vs shorter (indoor) gun, and the freedom to change it for looks.

He means it will function the same as the shorter one, the only difference will be visual, you gain no performance advantages by switching to setup 2

if anything it it just for looks and the added real estate to put accessories on I guess

The BB should still travel freely and exit the outer barrel without any issue, unless you are beyond lightning quick and are able to somehow move your gun before the BB exits the barrel, however given the short distance between the inner barrel and longer outer barrel I doubt you should have any issues. Perhaps if you had a 363mm inner barrel and a 2000mm outer barrel, then maybe.

From my experiences the BB will hit the outer barrel and not fire out properly lol
