Bunker Noobs - Play to Sit (and die)

What is a Bunker Noob?
When I started hosting a few games I quickly noticed the signs of what I call a bunker noob

- Sits at the spawn most of the game
- Tries to shoot people from sitting at spawn point
- Deaf to the command "Move up", "Clear it out", "Watch the left"
- Has a personal perimeter that he/she will not cross

At worst
- Gloats being the only one left alive (thats cause you hide in a corner)

How do you deal with them?

Playing at TTAC helped bring some good tools to teaching bunker noobs whats what. And its called Close Quarters Pain. They don't want to move out of the spawn point, well then teach them with pain by getting all your friends to storm their position.

Most likely one or two of your buddies will get hit but 4 vs. 1 with constant fire up close is a great teacher.

When I was at Defcon Paintball helping out new joiners get their feet wet in Airsoft and after 3 games of them not listening to me saying move up. I would swtich teams and run all the way to the other end to give them a nice surprise. 330 FPS Hicapa to the ribs or ass is a great close quarter pain teacher. Eventually they learned to take a more forward positions to take me out and soon they used their legs to finally get out of the spawn point, yay!

I found yelling at them may not work all the time, but shooting them works best, then after they moan and groan tell them why they are in pain and what to do next time, provided they come back again....

Ya I found that same thing in skirmishes. And ya working with them wont help, not at all! I ended up doing all the work, taking all the fire, retreating and all with out support fire from my two teammates not even 30 feet away before getting schooled by three guys flushing me out. Obviously they had no problems finishing the chickens with full diapers who, scared shittless watched as I failed in my one man attempt to stop five guys. Now who wants to switch up the teams??

You have the "cave dweller"

Who insists on diggin in in the deepest darkest corner they can find... Often with no possibility of changing position with getting killed...

The advent of the Tornado grenade pretty much rung the death Knell for these sad fellows.

But still .. you find them... running to the deepest dead end they can find..

so true man....

Last year....I had a (camper/cave dweller/hider of bb's) sit in a floor above me yelling out my postion. (we were on same team) ... I hear " Hey deep are you still in location A?"

It was yelled out so everyone can hear it it...not radio or whisper or hand signal...loudly so people in respawn could hear it.

I had no choice but to have a friendly fire accident.... sorry man you took one in the butt...must have been a misfire.

I then changed my postion....

I usually just leave them camping... move on...they will still be there after all the good players are out. Just toss a round every so often there way to keep em in the cave.

Not a big waste of bb's.

I usually find they do not last as they do not embrace the sport. (Too much fear of the bb I suppose)

I don't know if it's fear of BBs or they just don't know what else to do.

I've seen some serious cave dwellers turn into effective AS operators with a little training.

Truth, training is very key.

I think its a lack of understanding as well.

If no one ever taught you anything then you just go with instincts...some are to attack and others are to hide. You know...flee or fight impulse.

There is a flipside to this also though.

If you have the high ground, and the other team can't get a clear shot then why move? Make them use fire and movement or rush the position and pay for every inch of ground.

I think its negative reinforcement.... if every time you poke your nose out you get it shot off .. soon you stop poking your nose out.

with some very basic training.. most people can learn how to take and hold a corner.. advance under cover and move without exposure to fire.

hard to have high ground in a cave

we are discussing ways to improve the quality of play for folks who have issues with actually getting in the game.

Give them a task to do, put them on point, asign them as medics, and so on.

It theory everyone wants to be there so unless these are conscripts then move them up. If they are conscripts then they'll make great human shields.

Serious small team tactic with a fire team leader that know when it's good to drag somone by his cloths to stay in formation...

Last CQB game was a pistol only game. I invited one of my coworker to try it out. I found out that he was a little intimidated by the whole aspect of getting shot... He was cowarding behind cover, far behind. I hat to go back all the time to drag him by the shirt so he would follow us. It worked in the end. He took some experience and at the end of the game, he ran with us all the time.

Like said before... trainning and leadership!

I tried assigning new comers as medics, I found 80% of the time they don't respond to MEDIC as they are too timid to run up.

The one thing I did find that new comers are good at is flanking. I usually run up to draw the fire and get all the attention by yelling snide remarks at the enemy (friends) and YELL FLANK FLANK FLANK to the newcomers. And if I am lucky usually have a 50/50 chance my new player friend can do it

I agree dragging works too! I was dragged around in my first game and I figured things out a little faster that way. Probably because I was under fire and running for cover

Hey just like in everything, you reward good behaviour and punish bad.
I like the dragging idea, or the stick close to me and do what I say or i'll shot you tactic.
Worked great with me. Give them a specific task, and don't assume that they understand all the terminology. Make your directions clear and in simple english, loose the buzz words. Some people pick up things fast than others.

The Russians in WWII would send their soldiers out, with a machine gun facing them to keep them from turning back!!
