G&G M16 Gearbox Retention Pin
This is going to bump me up in the running for noob of the year, but...
How do you knock out that little pin on the lower receiver that holds the gearbox in? It's the one just forward of the word "Safe" on the gun. Which side am I supposed to hit it out from? I've got it to move in a bit tapping from the (shooter's) left side, but it just flexes on the other side of the polycarb lower. Thanks, Gabe

first, you have to know there is smooth end and serrated end. so you only can tap from smooth end in order not to damage your reciever.
if its first time taking out, you have to use a little force. just keep tapping from smooth end of the pin, it will slightly come out. once all serrated part(about 0.5mm) came out, its all yours. if you dont know which side is smooth end, tap from one side and check if there is serrated surface. hopefully my explanation help you =) good luck |

Thanks for your help, that was more detailed than what I've found on the internet. However, the pin only moves a bit from right to left, but not at all left to right, so I assume it's that way, but it's not coming out any further than about half a millimeter. Is it just really tight?
EDIT: Never mind, it just popped out. G&G cansoft AR series gearbox pins go from left to right everybody.

i believe the retention pins always go out opposite of the body pins.

I see. I'll remember that in the future.
Also, rather than start another thread, should there be two little vertical plastic pieces sticking out of the receiver at the back? They're stopping the mechbox from coming out.

Also I don't know if it's the same with yours, but with my metal receiver, that pin falls right out when I unbolt the stock.

Nope, it's a pretty tight fit with mine.

an easier way to remove this retention pin is to take this thing the last part after you have removed the 2 metal body pins and the mag catch. In this way, the gearbox would now come loose on the lower receiver. No force required and no ding/dents while taking down this pin.

The pin's no longer a problem as I've figured out which way it goes, but I'll try what you said and see if it makes it easier.
@ sopmod: Will upload pictures in a few minutes, just have to eat something and disassemble the gun again. OK, here are the pictures. It's kind of hard to see but I highlighted it on one of them. - -

I now get what you are asking =)
these little prastic pins are basically keep gearbox in the place. in order to remove gearbox, you have to kind a scratch them off. it doesnt really help anything anyway. i dont know how far you have diassmbled airsoft before. you have to remove all components (stock, grip, buffer tube, and upper reciever) before pulling the gearbox out. Have you tryed UN Company web-site? www.uncompany.com go to "Information", "Guide", "Guns disassemble", "SR-16 M4 Gun disassemble guide". good luck |

I've completely disassembled it, the only thing I haven't done yet is take out the mechbox.
I figured I would just need to scratch them off, but I wanted to make sure first. Thanks again for your help

Yeah, after that it should just slide out. You'll probably need to push it up and forward.
