M4 problems
I have an ICS M4 that isn't working. For some reason the BBs won't feed into the hop-up but air is coming out of the barrel so the gearbox is obviously making pressure. I've cleaned everything out and there's nothing jammed. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Problem - bbs won't feed, but gun fires bursts of air out of the barrel. Thanks all |

I would check the magazine first to make sure its not jammed.

watch inside the loading tube of the hop-up, fire and look for proper loading nozzle movement, if the nozzle is not moving you may have a tappet plate problem, if this is not your problem the mag is not feeding properly , is it a hi mid or locap?

Try a different mag, preferably a highcap. If that still doesn't feed, I'd guess tappet plate is broken.

Or the nozzle just came out of the tappet plate, I had this happen once.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that I tried multiple mags, regular, full metal, hi-caps, low-caps, so that's not the problem.
Could it be the tappet plate though? I thought that if there was a problem with the tappet plate the gun wouldn't even fire? |

All the tappet plate does it retract the nozzel so a BB can load. If it's broken (or disconnected from the nozzel), the nozzel won't retract.

I see. Thanks for telling me that. And thanks to everybody else who's put in their 2 cents. I'll see what I can do on my own as I've never tried to fix a V2 gearbox before, let alone a split style one, but if I can't fix it I'll take it to a higher power.
Thanks again all |

It could also be the hop-up chamber. The bb feeding tube of this chamber is not aligned well with the magazine. Check it.

a quick check before you strip the gun, i have an ics m4 andits very fussy with different makes of magazine.
when you insert mag fully wound do you hear the mag unwind slightly as the hop up engages with the mag. if you do all is fine, but on mine it will only feed if you push the mag foward as you fire (after market mags). to get over this i glued a washer into the recess in the back of the magwell towards the bottom ,this then forces the mag foward when you insert it. if this aint the problem then as suggested check your tappet plate ,which can be done by removing mag looking in bb feed hole and seeing if it moves when you fire. tap the trigger and you should see it move all the way back before it releases.

Thanks for all the info guys. I opened her up and low and behold a piece of plastic which looks very much like the trangle shaped part of a tappet plate fell out of the gun. So I guess that's what the problem was all along.
Can anybody recommed a good replacement or will any high end tappet plate do? Thanks again everyone, I'll get her back in the game soon enough. |
