Need help with radio/comms
So I'm putting together a small team, probably only 4 people to work as a recon squad for a larger airsoft team, basically scouts and snipers. We'll usually be operating in ghillie suits as sniper/spotter pairs, and we need hands-free radios that don't require us to talk too loud. NO ONE has a CLUE what they're doing when it comes to radios, any help or suggestions from the community?

If you are going to be scouts, you'll probably be far away from command so get at least a 4Watt radio. That means a good FRS/GMRS radio with as much range as possible. You can get a consumer version or you can get a Saber II or an MT1000 or equivalent in the 430-470Mhz range if you have a few more bucks.
IMO, don't bother with throat mics if you need to whisper as they are pretty much useless because no one will be able to hear you. Get a boom mic earpiece setup like a bowman, or just a remote mic speaker with the option of an earbud. The only bad thing about an earbud or a bowman, is that it limits your hearing on the side that you use them on. You can also get a lapel mic and remote PTT, but I find them a pain in the ass to find when you are prone. Usually only one pair of the sniper spotter pair (usually the spotter) is the primary on comms. If the spotter gets taken out the sniper picks up comm duty. |
