few questions for you Geardos
Hey guys, I have a couple of questios I was hopeing you could answer for me;
1) The patches that I see alot of SEAL operators wearingon their arms, they are rectangular black patches with white lettering - a combination of numbers and a letter -ie. V14 (James Suh- Seal Team 10). --What are they? -- Where can I get one made? 2) Where can I get my BDU tops raid(ed) -as in getting the pockets on the shoulders sewn on to it 3) IR stobes: I see a couple on ebay, and was considering getting one, are there any issues importing them here? 4) best ballistic eyewear that I can also wear in the CF? 4) Boots, what do you guys recommend, comfort, durability, weather proffing etc. - looking more for ones i can use in real life rather than AS. Bates Ultra Lites, Oakley, Magnum, 5.11 etc...so many can't decide. 5) best rain gear, looking for some sugestions on some raingear that I can wear over my BDU's but does'nt get in the way like the standard issue CF ones. Thanks for your input.

If you're using them for field Ex's and stuff you might as well stick to the issued BEW because if your fancy Oakleys get scratched you can't take them to the QM and exchange it. Does your chain of command even allow use of non-issue BEW?
As for IR strobes, it'll depend on the seller. He might ship it up north, he might not. Mention that you're in the CF and he might give you a break. As for raingear, get a Stealth Suit. It's thin, light, and worn under the BDU's. But if you're going to be running and gunning you'll overheat very easily in ANY raingear so might as well just suck it up and get used to being wet since you're doing the NSW thing anyway. I've bought a US issue strobe light from the US before, had no issues coming through but I have no idea if they checked it. It's not a night vision device and it's not a dangerous weapon so I can't imagine why they wouldn't let it through.
ESS, WILEY-X and OAKLEY make good ballistic eyewear, WILEY-X seems to be the most popular but go with whatever looks best to you, lots of guys here in manitoba wear ESS ICE 2.4 glasses. I've been using altama exospeed desert boots for a year now, they perform great and I've never seen a boot grip so well to wet grass lol Try finding something with oil slip resistant soles, I prefer a very light boot and these exospeeds are less than half the weight of other non-steel toe boots. And as for rain gear, I don't know what camo you want but the stealth suits have good reviews, I personally use gen.3 ACU goretex. It's cheap (about 130$ a set), incredibly light, and its an outer layer for your BDU's. The pants also feature a zipper all the way up to your hips so it's easy to get over your boots! |

Since some of the question have already been answered.
1.)The alpha numeric patches are CUSTOM MADE.Some are IR or glow-in-the-dark. http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=52785 2.)BDU raid top's most people just do it themselves or go to a alternation place to get it done.Or if your lazy get the TRU-SPEC Tactical Response Uniform (TRU) Shirt http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.asp...0434&TabID=548 That's the other way to go. |

I'm not sure at all, but are they not the position ID in the squad?
I'd like to have a definite answer on that.

Oakley M Frames are the way to go IMO for non-issue BEW. I wore them all the time in Afghanistan, etc. But, no clue if your unit will be cool with you wearing 'em.
Boots; the US Army issue Bellevilles are good, bought a pair at the US PX in KAF an they worked out very well for me. I also like SWATs and Danners are also good boots. I also like the old school jungle an desert boots. For Raingear, stealth suit is good to go. But its worn under your uniform. Really got no recommendation for over the combats raingear, since I just wear the new issue CADPAT raingear. |
