My MP5: Revisited now that it's complete.
Last week I posted a thread with a couple of bad iPhone pics of my almost complete MP5. I arrived home today to find a package in my mail box. It was the new complete CA front end that I had been waiting for to complete my project. So I wasted no time stripping the old front end off and installing this new one. I filled in the trades with white crayon and snapped off a few pics with my good camera this time...
For those that didn't catch the other thread, this started out as a brand new ABS JG MP5-J. Stock, I really did like the gun. It worked great and was reasonably accurate. But I don't care for collapsable stocks much, wanted to use a large battery, and wanted the gun to be metal where it should be on a real MP5, so I added the following parts:
It shot 340 pretty consistently before upgrades, although I haven't chronied it since I switched hopups. I assume it will be about the same. It might be a bit hotter with a better air seal. I got to test fire it this past weekend at Border Wars (didn't game it, just tested it) and I could consistently hit a tree about 125 feet away. This gun has SICK range and accuracy. I'm now considering (once I get my P90 in the next couple of months) converting this for outdoor use by adding a stiffer spring and an M4-length tightbore covered by a silencer. I currently have just over $500 invested in this gun, but will more than likely recoup at least $150 once I sell off the spare parts (including another CA metal cocking tube). So when all is said and done, I'll have about $350 sunk into this gun ($475-ish once I get the new mechbox installed), which is damn good for a quality MP5 with mostly CA parts. At this time, the only remaining JG parts are the lower receiver and mechbox. So now let's get to the point of this thread - teh pr0n!!! **Note the open bolt when the cocking lever is locked back**

I bought the receiver used in the classifieds for $50. In was in great condition too, almost like new. The original CA front end I had was a bit older and has a lot of cosmetic wear on the paint. It's cool because it looks like a well-used gun (I like that look), but it clashed with the receiver, which was part of the reason I got the new front end.

Very nice AEG. That CA upper really seals the deal.

It looks and feels great, although now I notice that there may be a little too much shine in the JG lower receiver that sets it off from the more matte finish of the upper. I may end up swapping for a TM lower sometime down the road. But it's not high on my list at the moment. I'm quite happy with how it looks.

Hang on to your JG lower. Its actually a much better piece than the TM one, in my opinion. From the examples I saw and worked with, the JG has a better textured finish, was more robust, and the switching mechanism lasted longer.

Maybe I'll remove the lower receiver and give it a light spray with some matte clear. It'll help remove a bit of the shine and preserve what's left of the selector markings.

Damn. Just when I make up my mind on a C8A3, you go and give me wood with your MP5. Taht gunn is teh sexx btw. Also, I'm pretty sure that the ICS lower receivers are also good quality like the CA plastic parts, if you need to replace the JG. Congrats on finishing that project.
Cheers!
