WE 1911 - Broken Bushing and Spring Cap
Looking for some help.
I know there was a member who posted here earlier that the Barrel Bushing and Spring Cap on his WE 1911 had broken, but I can't seem to find it. I am sure I read that WA 1911 parts would work there, but are there any other brands that would work? Redwolf, WGC, and UN Co. are all sold out of what I need, and I am having a hell of a time finding anything. I'd prefer stock parts, but upgrades would be okay depending on price. Thanks for the help. |

I recall safx saying you could order the whole gun and just ask them to pull the slide off and only ship that, leaving the frame at the store for them to do what they want with. $90 for a full slide set isn't a bad deal.

I've had the same problem, and from what I can see here's how it happens:
The spring cap is very loose in the slide. So every time the gun is fired and the slide comes back then slams forward, the rim of the spring cap bangs off the inside of the slide and eventually breaks. From there, the spring cap moves freely in and out of the slide and presses against the barrel bushing every time it's fired from then on. This pushes the bottom part of the bushing out and eventually snaps it off. Replacing these broken parts will only let it happen again. I would try to put a small oring between the spring cap and slide to cushion the blow and maybe use glue or epoxy to keep the barrel bushing in place.

From what I've read, it just appears to be the shitty metal that WE uses. Upgrading will help. I'll try your advice as well too. Can never do too much!

Beware just swapping out the bushing and recoil spring plug for better ones; someone else did it and ended up destroying the forward end of his slide:

Anyone know WE-Tech's website/contact info? WA hasn't got back to me yet, and I forgot to try WE.

I'd ask exactly what you suggest "upgrading" to, since WE 1911s aren't compatible with any other GBB 1911 design.

By "upgrade", I meant to WA parts, which must be better than WE.
As per the above-linked thread, another member used WA Barrel Bushing and Spring Cap in his WE, and they worked. I'm just taking his word for it. Evike has the barrel bushing, but no spring cap. Damn! |

Yeah, a few select parts are compatible, like the WA parts. I believe the inner barrel and possibly hopup sleeve are TM compatible as well. But the rest of the gun... well.... it's not so good.

Well, I only need the two parts, then I'm selling it, so no worries about upgrading other things.

WE are really hit or miss. I hit the jackpot with both of mine. The Luger kicks ass, although the mag started leaking from around the base within a couple of days.. Otherwise, the gun's fired several hundred rounds, and works flawlessly. Powerful and accurate too. WE Hi-Capa works like a charm too, and it TM-compatible, so if anythign goes wrong, it's not an issue...
As a wall-hanger, I'd consider the 1911 because it looks good and is all metal. As a shooting gun, I would never get one.

That was me. But bear in mind my WE hasn't exhibited any damage to the bushing/recoil spring plug at this point. The link I posted, his did, and upon replacing the bushing/plug with more solid (steel) parts, it was the front of the slide that got damaged. So I'm not sure I'd recommend that as a fix. I'm actually curious what's causing this and need to check a few things, just haven't had the time yet.

I've given up trying to find a spring cap. I will JB Weld the lip back on the spring cap, add the o-ring as was suggested, and install the new bushing.
Searching around the net, I found this seems to be a somewhat common problem. UN Co has the parts, they are just sold out, and can't tell me when they'll get new ones. I want this gun gone, so if my buyer will take it with a new bushing and a repaired cap at a discount, it's done. Thanks for all the help all. |
