Sniper M4 project finished with 650mm barrel... Now a few questions!
Hey guys!
I just finished my airsoft project which looks like this: Here is what I have: VFC Metal M4 body Guarder metal hop-up G&P Reinforced mechbox with M120 Madbull Phython II 650 MM 6.03 barrel. Madbull front end with 24inch outer barrel. King Arms crane with 9.6V 1600 Ni-MH batt w/Dean's Tokyo Marui EG700 motor. Star SL29 pistol grip. 1st question: Lack of accuracy and erratic accuracy: I noticed that accuracy is under what I was expecting. The hop-up is very toughy to adjust and BB's sometimes dive at launch. I few shots in full auto cure this for a while. Can a bore up help me at this point? Will BB's start behaving erratically hitting air at the end of this very long barrel? 2nd ROF too high. Should I simply drop down to 7.2V or should I re-gear the mechbox? This leads to feeding problems. Thank you all for any suggestions! MasterGoa

what hop up rubber are you using?
maybe it has too much grease in it maybe it's just bad quality? I'm talking about the hop up rubber, they have alot to do with accuracy. |

It came with the clear hop-up the VFC body came with and is blue. I had a Guarder clear silicone bucking but I distroyed it trying to remove the barrel with the hop-up still grabbing. I guess a nice quality hop-up can be considered. As for greace, there is none. Just a little silicone oil to help assemble everything... Thanks for the advice! Keep it coming! MG

WEll I like the set up, nice front end and barrel, however some sugjestions from personal taste, lose the laser and whatever that silver thing is? lol bi pod will finish it off nice as well, sniper after all.
As for your issues, the inaccuracy and shooting problems, could be to much oil on the hopup rubber, or not enough. If there is too much, it wont grip the bb properly, just take it out, wash it with warm water and dish soap, reoil, re assemble, and it will work wonders. Boreup? Some recomend this for barrels over 600, so might be an idea, however I am running a 590 tightbore in my Sniper SPR set up, and I am not even using a full cylinder yet getting effective 200 ft range, so im not complaining at all. Im using a systema hopup bucking, very sturdy, very durable, I have done things to it taking it out that most rubbers would shatter, but this one, not even a tear, so I recomend it. ROF? Personally I went for ROF with my setup, faster shots in semi, crisper no delay, ect. But can really get it done on full if shit go tough. Your using a 120 gearbox with a EG 700 that is more torque than ROF and you still find it too fast?

Also is the cylinder matched with the barrel ?

Thanks all!
The cylinder was not matched. I have not open the mechbox. It was in an M4 setup that Stokes had, but he had it at 510mm if I am not mistaking. The barrel is new and had about 1000 BB's through it since install. I put a light coat of oil on the bucking to assemble, I did not put too much care in where the oil went however. The silver thigny is a flashlight which will go under where the grip is as the grip is already moved back. It will mount under the front of the hand guard. The BB's I am using are not top notch, I have a bag of KSC .30's and BBBastards .28's on the way. What bucking to use with heavy BB's? I have no idea what FPS but it was built arounf an M120... Cheers from Montreal! MG

As for ROF, my freinf has a stock JG G36K with a 8.4V 1100MHA
and I spew just about twice the ROF... It is insane. I will try and record it... MG

for that long of a barrel a non-ported bore-up will help.

a harder hop up rubber would help, Prometheus Hard, Firefly Hard... Guarder Hard..

Nice but a sniper doesn't require a flash light on the gun.

lol already pointed that out. Id replace the foreegrip with a bipod.. unless u have super long arms, that would just be awkward!

Also, in the Montreal area, to my knowledge no game organizers will allow lasers.

+1 to a bore-up kit +1 to break in your TBB AND then clean it If the hopup is backing off you might want a new hopup unit. I sounds like it is, this is common for m4/m16 hopups. Try a little white out on the wheel for a visual reference and check after the BBs start to dive. A full metal one might be better. I'm surprised you want less ROF. Try it in semi. a high voltage battery will give to a much nicer response. IMO cosmetically, you should get a bigger scope. Its soo tiny compared to the AEG. How about a 3-9x50mm I/R mildot for $60US? (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SCP549-1113-1536.html) You might want to wash your BBs in soap and water if you think they are not bone dry. This is common for some sniper grade ammo, coff! STRAIGHT BBs coff!, but I would only worry about it if there is a reason to believe they are slick. |
