TM MP5 SD5 upgrades
Hey guys got this gun about a year ago and its about 280 FPS stock.
I'd like to upgrade it to about 400 FPS. I was thinking about upgrade it with a Systema Complete M120 Gearbox. I was wondering what you thought about them, or if there was a better route of going. Also would there be other upgrades I should do to it for that to work without trouble? I haven't upgraded a gun yet, so whatever you think would be the best bang for your buck would be the best advice please. |

First of all, mechboxes are complex peices of equipment. If you dont know what your doing, do not do it. You will risk wrecking your gun. If you are planning on doing it yourself, then please visit Mechbox dot com as they have instructional videos that are to the point and easy to follow.
Also, when choosing a velocity you need to consider what it is that you will be using that weapon for, if its a CQB weapon, 400fps, isn't what you'll want. I recently upgraded my P90 with a Guarder FTK(full tune-up kit) which comes with everything you need(except battery) to get the strength and velocity you desire. |

yeah its not really CQB so I'd like a higher FPS. I forgot to specify in the original post but i want to keep my gun as accurate as possible with the higher FPS. So I'd like the most accuracy around 400-450.

If your goal is 400-450 then i'd suggest an M120, even though personally i think that's alittle over kill for a sub-machine gun. An M120 should get you around 430 using .2's. However I would strongly reccomend you use .25's seeing as you'll be pushing out alot more power, with using .25's you'll lose some fps, however you will gain better accuracy and bush penetration.

350 is good for an mp5.
also you probly wouldnt want a spring so powerful that your motor cant work the gears or your battery isnt powerful enough to run you run the risk of wearing out the gears in the box and then if getting a better battery running the risk of blowing fuses

I'm fine with replacing whatever I would have to replace. At stock its 280, with good accuracy with .2s. I'd like to boost the FPS to around 400, but keep the accuracy high. I was thinking the M120 with reinforced gearbox, but I don't know what else i would need with it, for instance bore up kit, new piston, new cylinder, motor, gears and such.

If that is your goal, then i would suggest a Guarder FTK like i mentioned earlier. It comes with everything you need to get to where your going. Your motor will be fine for this upgrade, that is if you have an EG1000. But a 9.6 volt battery would be a must, your 8.4 would wear out very quickly.

Cool thanks for the info. I'll look into the motor to make sure i got the right one.

Buy a systema complete, you obviously don't know what you're doing so save yourself the hassle and spend the extra $10.

Should ignore a lot of what was posted above, I can get you a good accurate gun for cheap on the upgrade side of things.
You have an EG700 motor in your gun, keep it, it's better than the EG1000. Get a custom cut 330mm inner barrel, tightbore if you like. This will give you an extra 20fps on top of what you already shoot at compared to the stock length inner barrel. Buy a V2 bearing spring guide (brand doesn't matter, just ignore Deep Fire), this will add about 15fps. Install metal bushings, all are equal except in price. Buy (from Jugglez, hell, get all the parts from him, he rocks), a Modify 100 spring. I receintly installed one of these and a bearing spring guide into a stock TM AK47, get 370fps out of it consistantly. All this added together will keep your battery life happy, not bog down your rate of fire too much, and will get you in the 380-390fps range. All other upgrades mentioned above will cost you more and net you less, and even destroy your V2 mechbox (even if a reinforced one.) I've had a LOT of variances with upgrades through both my TM MP5s (SD and A), and what I just posted is what I have in my SD, it's sitting around 390fps now and works great. From a TM MP5, don't expect much of an increase in velocity (if any, chances are zero) at all from a new cylinder and airseal nozzle. I have yet to see any difference on the guns I've worked on with those upgrades. Last edited by CDN_Stalker; May 22nd, 2008 at 21:47.. |

No problem, I've done enough gun work and dealt with enough new players to say it's best to NOT for for lot so really expensive upgrades, and even worse if you are doing the upgrade yourself. FTK cause more problems than they are worth, most relaiable guns I've ever seen are largely stock with a few parts replaced. For the most part, smart basic upgrades last years, and FTK and such might not see it to the end of the first game you play with it. Maybe last longer, but unless every little detail is checked out, you have a 50:50 chance of it last longer than a few games.
