Question rappelling gear?

anyone happen to know a place to get rappelling gear? I need the harness, rope, and gloves. I learned with a friends gear and decided to get some of my own. I found some on http://www.soldiercity.com/ but i've never bought from them? Id like to get from a good trusted store?

Thanks

-Braeden

Well, probably the cheapest way, (but not the most reliable way) would go to a local/pretty close rock-climbing store/place where you can ask if they sell anything, or if they can recommend any retailer. Unno, might get lucky and have some pretty good free stuff you can pick up.

Try MEC, I usually shop there in Toronto, great prices usually lower than most retialers, have a vast variety in climbing gear also, plus they let you return items which are unsatisfactory to you at anytime.

If you're trusting your life to the rope then I suggest the $200 stuff.

There are a couple indoor climbing walls in Kelowna, they're the places to go for gear so you can try it on and find out what kind of harness and seat you like.

for rappelling you want to stay away from dynamic...static lines are what you will want. MEC is a great bet...in kelowna you could go to Valhalla Pure, they are an outdoor store but prices are higher. Make sure you learn how to set up a good anchor and know what you're doing before you go out or go with someone who does...very easy to die rappelling and the most common causes of death in the climbing community...

There is still a role of black static line from valhala pure in abbotsford.
See if you can get them to ship it to you.

Its good rope, I ordered 2 roles already.

If you can afford it, get a Petzel STOP. They are good if you want to rappel in games.

Please, for God's sake, don't cheap out on a rapelling rope. Also, for what it's worth, tie yourself off when you're tieing off your rapelling rope. You might seem like you're far enough away from the edge but all it takes is a slip and down the side you go.
I lost a brother at the age of 26 years old in Milton Ontario at rattlesnake point in March of 1999 to a rock climbing accident. He didn't tie himself off while he was tieing off his rapelling rope.
