FPS + Missing factor?
So after a day of researching, I've found only half the answer to my question, and so am posting on the forum as a last resort.
I'm thinking of buying a sniper. The best one I can afford would be the super 9. It has a FPS of 270. The shotgun I own already has an FPS of 330. So heres my question. In terms of range, which is what snipers are all about, what makes the super 9 better than my shotgun? Shouldn't my FPS of 330 shoot farther than 270? Or is there another factor that effects range? I read in the FAQ that barrel length makes a difference, but does it make such a difference that the Super 9 would shoot considerably farther than the gun I have, or should I just get a scope for my shotgun? (I do realize that the accuracy of the shotgun would be nothing to that of the super 9) Thanks |

For future refrence please supply links to the guns you are talking about, or failing that a little more information please.
Are you talking about the UHC super 9? because from what Ive read in the last 30 seconds it seems the FPS is around 400 on one website while another quotes 200.

Super 9 is an ultra-cheeso spring rifle. Total crap. I don't think any more needs to be said on that.
But the range of a gun depends a little on FPS, a little on the barrel, a little on the BB itself, a little on the hop-up. Variations in any one of those will affect range, either increasing or decreasing. Too many variables exist to determine exactly what will work well or won't, unless someone has done the trial and error first

I believe he might be referring to a Super 90. As in an M3 Super 90 from TM. He mentioned shotguns and range, after all.
EDIT:Nevermind. Mcguyver posted right before me. |

when talking bout airsoft guns, buy the best you can afford and dont cheap out on a super 9. if you're after the super 9 because of the "shell ejection" capability well....what can i say.
some good suggestions of snipers that would offer decent quality and performance (400fps) would be the JG bar 10 and UTG snipers. |

are you talking about clearsoft guns?
ohhh... that gun, yeah that sniper is really fun due to the shells, but it is the single dumbest airsoft gun to actually game with.. ever, you'll loose shells and the gun sucks the big one. A friend of mine has one again just to plink with around his apartment. Last edited by AngelusNex; February 19th, 2008 at 00:07.. |

It doesn't make it better than your shotgun. You have to remember, stock spring rifles aren't much. You need to upgrade it to see the real results.
And for god sakes, don't get the Super 9!

heh, I was actually expecting a little more flaming about wanting a Super 9 than I got.
Unfortunately I don't have the cash for a $300-400 gun. Even if I did, my friends are as poor as I am and wouldn't play me if my gun were $250 more expensive then theirs :S So I was hoping the Super 9 would at least keep me content. So I realize now that my question may have been alittle unclear. I wasn't asking if the Super 9 was worth getting (I know its crap). I was asking what exactly determines range? Is it possible for a 270 FPS gun to shoot considerably farther than a 330 FPS gun? How can I tell by looking at a guns stats what kind of range it has? |

Save up longer and avoid the Super 9. Period.
If you are only ever gonna be playing against guys who only use Tippman airsoft guns or clearsoft, then you might as well get the Super 9. |

What kind of games are you willing to play with that gun?
