Running a stock AEG to its death on 12 volts. |

I think this should be in the FAQs for newcomers to watch...well, I doubt they'd see anything in the FAQs, but...it should be there for those who are new to the sport and have delusions about running a gun with a battery that's too powerful for the sake of increasing their FPS/ROF/range/whatever.

So right!
My first gun was an MP5SD6 from airzoft.com. I hooked nine sub-c cells to it, and hung them under the foregrip like a triangular grenade launcher. I could empty the mag in about two seconds with it. After three weeks of intermittent use chasing off crows, it finally got too shrill to listen to. The plastic gearbox and gears still technically functioned, but they were all worn, especially the bevel gear and the piston gear. Their "bushings" were toast, but it was interesting to note that the middle gear's axle/bushing wasn't worn near as much. So I got to learn right off where most of the stresses are in an AEG geartrain. This has come in handy when modifying things. As I've moved on to the "MPEG" type guns (I have but two Marui's), I've gotten to see firsthand how much their quality has improved over the past year, and I'm impressed with how some of the "cloned" components are better than the things they copy. Watching the video, did you expect the gun to still be operational after a minute and a half of constant running? I was surprised myself. A new set of bushings and a piston to replace the chewed original, and this gun is ready for another run. Wow. I think we have some thanks to give to the Noob's out there, if they hadn't been breaking new cheapies and causing pain with product returns, Chinese clones would still be made from medical waste-quality stuff. I bought 3 SCAR clones (JLS) when they were $169. Now the price is $139, and the bevel gear and piston gear both have metal bushings stock. A reinforced piston, and a nice .052" spring (~M120) are in there as well! Are You a Noob? I was, less than two years ago. The MP5 didn't have to die! But what I learned from tearing it apart (it's components live on in other items) was worth FAR more than the $39 I paid for it. So don't feel bad if you've wrecked your first gun with excess electron flow. In fact, please be a good customer and break products daily, and harp on the mfg when you find faults. Being a gun manufacturer myself, I secretly enjoy hearing about my product's shortcomings, because every one presents an opportunity to make them better. If you have an AirSharp product and aren't happy, I want to know about it. My "Dirtbike Warranty" policy means the item is your problem if you break it. But come to me with an honest issue in a businesslike manner, and I will do all I can to fix your problem. -I haven't charged one customer yet for a replacement item, or it's delivery cost! I should point out that entertaining disaster stories get special attention... |

That poor styrofoam box. And I hope that I never encounter any player using a box mag like that in a game.

I feel bad for that cooler... me and my family use to take those style coolers to the beach at the cottage all the time... till uncle Gerry swore it would take his weight anyway...
Now there are 24 beers out there that will never be cold... And is it just me, or did it look like some of those BBs (2nd clip) bounced off the glasses there without destroying the glass?

It was actually packing material from a gem globe. My beers are safely cold, for when it's five o'clock somewhere...
The thick factory-second glasses I got at the dollar store are pretty tough. That's why I used the SPR. It shoots good and hard. |

Did you find that your SPR is a bit 'light' overall? My buddy has it and that's the first thing we both noticed, otherwise a nice AEG.

Kind of wasteful just to destroy a mechbox for S&G. A follow up video of them taking apart the mechbox and finding what had broken and what had excessive wear would have been much more interesting.

Pics coming. The mechbox was in amazingly good condition. A set of bushings and a piston is all it needs to run again. I took pictures of the autopsy, I will post them later today.
I did this because so many noobs (self included) hook bigger batteries to airguns in hopes of better performance. All it does is make the motor run faster. The OA93 pistol had a stock mechbox in it for construction purposes. I have a hot-rodded one going together for it, so I thought why not show how well the "metal gearbox" in the current crop of MPEG's hold up. I have lots of parts on hand (I have over 30 personal guns, in addition to building the 1919's, M2's, Stingers, and running a Chinese M14 clone parts business), So chewing a piston for the sake of illustration was good math. I have to hand it to the cloners...a minute and a half of continuous operation at nearly double the stock voltage (12.89volts on my old Beckman meter) is impressive alone. The fact that it can be fixed with $30 in parts shows how far we've come. |
