Propane vs. Green Gas

Well,

I have been searching the forums a lot, and i have no real definative answer. If i were to buy a GBB airsoft pistol, can i run it on regular over-the-counter propane, or is Green Gas the preferred choice. again, i have read many different things on the forums, so i put this thread up to have it answered indefinately.

Well, it all depends if you want to save on Bottles of propane ($3 /btl)... but deal with the Horible stentch it provides. If you're fielding your gun, use propane I hear that most people that field their GBB's all use Standard Propane for Cost reasons.However If you use your GBB for the occasional shoot(Indoor), then i Strongly suggest the use of non-sented Green Gas.

Propane is chemically identical to green gas. The only thing green gas has to offer (for 10 times the price) is oil pre-mixed in it, and usually without the safety features (burst disk on bottle, Ethanethiol in the gas).

Just add a drop of oil every few refils in the adaptor.

if you run a tight budget, use propane.
however, ive heard certain gasses can damage the seals and cause damage to your gun.. so is propane one of those?

Duster Gas is also very economical and effective aswell, at a good $7/Btl. But like propane it needs a drop of silicone oil to keep the O-ring healthly. I actually prefer Duster to Green Gas because of avialbillity, but when theres the money for it, Green Gas is the way to go. Also on a side-note, the Duster Adapter from AI is alot cheeper than the Propane adapter V4/5. (Eventhough its very well constructed.), and can be used from both? i believe?

One is cheaper and safer. Period.

Propane is safer. There is a reason why flammable gases shouldn't smell fruity. Green gas usually smells very pleasant, so you won't catch a leak as fast, if at all.

Also certain makes of green gas canisters have no visible burst disks, so in case of catastrophic failure it will go boom instead of just scarring the cats.

that was actually very insightful, something tells me you know alot about these guns, i must remember to use propane with my first GBB

lol, im just trying to find stuff out by reading the forums, so far i have concluded that although many people say AEG are most fun (especially for new players) gas pistols usually have less problems and are built pretty sturdy, although if not taken care of can be more dangerous, as they do use compressed gas.

although it helps that my step dad use to work in a gun store so he knows how to fix GBBs and he can teach me alot about them.

i think when people say that AEGs are a better choice for newbs like us, i think that they are referring to the rifles, not the pistols.

GBBs are relatively more problem prone, actually.

A stock Tokyo Marui can perform problem free for years, whereas a single dive in sand can wreak havoc on a GBB.

aegs are recommended if you plan on playing airsoft. If you bring a gbb to a airsoft game your going to be seriously out gunned. If you plan on just target shooting then you can go either way.

Id say for reliability they are about equal depending of course on the brand. But comparably a TM AEG would be just as reliable as a TM GBB. But if they were to break down it would be easier to get parts for a aeg.

Propane all the way. Dont waste your time and money on cans of green gas. Its just propane disguised as green gas with a bit of oil pre mixed in it.

oh, im sorry, i didnt distinguish between the two, i meant AEGs as a whole actually, ive heard nothing good about AEG pistols, exept for from people who use them for backyard plinking. however, i do say that a TM G18c would make a nice side arm, if you took proper care of it
