What SVD Dragunov ?
Hi there !
Hmm first of all I have to tell that the SVD Dragunov has always been one if not my favorite rifle forever. I was looking as some different versions of the airsoft counterpart and was wondering which one you think is the best in terms of internals ( because we all know the body and appearance is more apt to be modified than the internals ) By the way I'm only gathering informations, I'm not 18 just yet. But I've gone to several games to watch players etc. so I know how a game works and such , I just don't own a gun Last edited by Tank94; July 13th, 2007 at 13:53.. |

Our own DonP wrote a great article here: http://www.unconventional-airsoft.co...mation/svd.php
The G&P gas-powered version needs a LOT of work to even be used at a game. The Guarder "dragunov" kit slapped on a TM AK47S is not really a Dragunov - the reciever is the wrong length - it's more like a Romanian PSL. But it is electric (and thus can fire semi-auto, even full auto), parts are easy to come by, and it's easy to fix. The Jin Gong dragunov is the same as above, but not as nice looking. The King Arms/AtoZ version is highly regarded as accurate + powerful, but is manual cocking, so no semi-auto sniping for you. The PDI Dragunov is gas powered, semi auto, out of production for many years, impossible to find parts for, and insanely expensive. This are your chioces, unless you want to attempt a scratch-build.

That would be really neat but I lack a bit of airsoft knowledge for this, even though I've been interested and reading about airsoft for a couple of years. This is a very interesting read nonetheless, but I think I'll just go for a typical AEG when the time will come. And if noobs are reading this, wait , it will be worth it. dont spend on useless low grade softair, airsoft is a sport worth the wait. I myself have about another year to wait before buying my own stuff and can guarantee it's worth it. |

There's also the Escort reworked G&P one, but I'm pretty sure that one costs a couple grand up front in the states.

Yeah...I think I'll go for a good ol' TM for starts. Nothing fancy but something that can be a good platform for future upgrades. thanks for your help tho.

i picked up a JG dreg and im pritty happy with it for $250 but its going to get a dropin mechbox tightboar and prowinhopup. I only got it for the body so i could build a "cheap" one for the collection.
but if money wasnt an option i would go with the AtoZ.

D'you think the JG would be a good platform for future upgrades if I really want one ? what would be the upgrades needed to make it skirmishable and efficient

if you want to put one in your hand now! and dont want to save up the $700 (or what ever it is) Then yes the JG is a good gun, it shoots prity far and it has a metal mechbox...........BUT
With all the upgrades one might be wanting to do to make the JG a real good gun it will take mech box (havn't chrono'd yet but stock shoots 280ish) tightboar (does not come with a full length barrel) hopup (probably optional for upgrade) battery (one that comes is small mah) oh yah. you might aswell pick up a rail mount for a sight or something because the front iron sight is held with a set screw and is a loose fit. to sum it up you will spent the same or a bit more in the JG once it is all said and done. but you will still have the plasticy feel of the stock and grip.

Why would you buy a new gearbox? Just upgrade the internals, if you have to. Buy it, play un-upgraded, see how it performs stock.
And it aint no SVD. Just a weird looking AK. I have absolutely no respect for something like that. Cheers, Alex

"Ifyou're taking that route, don't go with the JG variation (mmmmplastic)."
The Dragunov from JG is actually full metal. Well the partis that are suppose to look metal are... Im tnot talking about the "fake wood" imitation but all the rest. Last edited by Union; July 15th, 2007 at 20:26.. |

Hmm...? I'm pretty sure the receiver and sight block are plastic like a TM is.

Well TM's ABS plastic isn't that bad on most guns... Of course it's no metal but it does the trick
