Opinions on a shemagh
Well folks, I just ordered myself a shemagh in olive drab with black, I rather fancy it and hope to get good use out of it in the years to come. But I was wondering, does anyone else out there use a shemagh? If so what are your opinions on it? Do you have a preference? is there a specific make or country you like to get yours from? I ordered mine from the UK and cant wait to get it. But for the time being I was just intrested in getting some input from folks around the site.

It gets kinda smelly after a while.. too scared to wash it... It makes me feel like a smelly pirate.
No seriously, it's a goo addition to any kit. Keeps bugs outta yer mouth, and helps you blend in with the your surroundings. |

I've been using a Shemagh for almost every game. I find it looks good an can serve some use in the field. If you wear it like a scarf it protects your neck. Full face/head is good if your pissed of from bugs but I find that it tends to make goggles fog up faster.

Ive seen people wear those and scarfs or bandannas around the neck to ease the pain of a neckshot. It looks pretty alright too. Personally Ill just use a cheap bandanna or old piece of OD or camo cloth.

I wear an olive/black one in the winter to work, as I hate tuques and scarves. And yeah, they will absorb sweat/bug spray/beer and smell kinda funky after a while if you don't wash them. I wash mine lightly by hand, in cold water, with a tiny bit of my wife's lingerie soap, and hang it to dry.

Thank you very kindly Skruface for washing instructions! I was actually wondering to myself what the washing options where on my way home from work just after I made the original post. Now I know, thank you kindly. I currently wear a bandana around my neck, it looks ok, and does alright to cover for neck shots and I pull it up around the nose when I wanna be a ninja. Im glad I made the investment into this though.

Not yet, and I wore mine daily for around 5 months last winter. I also took the time to make sure every single one of the dangly bits (I don't know if there's a proper term for them - the little threads around the edge) were all properly knotted. I had a few bits that came unknotted, so I retied them myself. Otherwise, it didn't shrink, fade, or unravel at all.

Mine has some busted threads from trees and stuff. It adds to its character.
I usually drape it over my head then put on my BDU jacket and then roll it over the back of my head kinda like a hoodie.. so when im crawling or laying prone I can pull it over for shade and to break up my figure in the treeline. But its also a good bug shield.. or sweat wipe.

I used to have a green/black one back when I had CADPAT, wore it all the time for games, field ex's, etc..washed it plenty of times too, got more comfortable in my opinion.
Same thing goes for my 'newer' tan/black one that replaced it (after I sold it). I even wore that to work when the weather was colder. I don't wear it often now since it's usually hot, but when the weather isn't blaring death and humid, it's wrapped around my neck. I like to simply wrap mine around and tuck it under my top layer.

you're supposed to wear one when it's hot, just soak it with cold water. It was 35 degrees here yesterday, and I did yard work with a UA shirt and my shemagh and was comfortable all day.

I've worn a shemagh for years. Same one. I wear it when in the field doing army stuff and when I play airsoft. I wash it with my regular laundry, no problems with it yet.
I also wear one of these when it's really hot out. I made one myself out of some Cadpat material, silica beads and velcro. Works like a charm.
