Another irresponsible person - NFLD

Two young men have been charged with weapons offences after a pedestrian was hit by an object from a passing car in downtown St. John's, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. A man reported he had been struck while he was walking on Duckworth Street. The RNC said it believed the unspecified object came from a soft air gun. Soft air guns — also called airsoft guns by some manufacturers — are weapons that typically fire pellets. They include weapons used for recreation, such as paintball, and for training. They are also commonly used in film and TV productions as replicas of more powerful weapons. The RNC said two men — a 20-year-old Mount Pearl man and a 19-year-old resident of neighbouring Paradise — have each been charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. The two are scheduled to appear in court on March 15. Investigators are asking for the public to contact the RNC if they know of such incidents. |

Who cares? You know what else is a weapon dangerous to the public?
A paintball gun A pellet gun A knife A slingshot A compound bow All these are 100% legal to own without a permit. Just owning them cannot get you charged and if these punks get convicted on the possession charge, I will be very surprised. |

I read that kitchen chair was top of the death by blunt object list, maybe they should pass a law stating all chairs must be teathered to the floor.

I believe the full charge is: "possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace".
It's not the item they had. It's the fact that they had a normal, usually harmless item that was carried in such a way, and with such a purpose as to cause alarm or possible harm to the general public. Last edited by gunscythe; February 5th, 2007 at 12:16.. |

Hey dudes, look on the positive side, they described airsoft/softair rather accurately
"Soft air guns — also called airsoft guns by some manufacturers — are weapons that typically fire pellets. They include weapons used for recreation, such as paintball, and for training. They are also commonly used in film and TV productions as replicas of more powerful weapons."

Great, now people can actually start putting a name with the game. I'd rather they just call it pellet guns or paint ball ripoffs. I'd prefer obscurity to our game.

All Airsoft, Soft-Air, BB Gun, Pellet Gun, and Paintball gun sales should be restricted to those who are the age of majority and have a valid PAL!
