*Trash this*
This is in the FAQ. Airsoft is limited to about 90-120 feet effective range, irrelevant of upgrades (also, a silencer will do nothing to improve accuracy).

I'd try to be more helpful than firemachine, but I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Are you talking about adding a silencer AND a longer inner barrel, or just adding a silencer? And this is the Star L85 we're talking about, right?

He's basically asked (or so I understand), if attaching a silencer at the end would be like extending his barrel. Afterwards, he asks if this setup will rival a sniper rifle.
I come in, and remind him that no, adding a silencer does not extend performance. I also point out that irrelevant of upgrades, maximum useful range is about 90 to 120 feet.

Effective range is a bit longer than that: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=28071

Effective range typically means "useful" range. Maximum range is a bit different.

no sry not adding silencer for extending inner barrel... im not that dumb would putting silencer on make it quieter....
also doesnt longer inner barrel improve accuracy... which means if it fire same fps as my L96 would i not just scrap the sniper? and its the academy L85. i just thought the silencer add-on would look cool and maybe even sound cooler/quieter my TM mk23 with silencer on its like old school nurf gun.... good ol days.... |

airsoft silencers dont do anything, since the noise comes from the mechbox. They do not improve range, accuracy or anything. Aside from looks and covering a larger barrel, they server no purpose.
A longer barrel improves accuracy...to a point. Its rare to have an AEG that takes the role of a full sized sniper rifle. Considering most rules limit AEG fps more then sniper fps, your still better off sniping with a sniper rifle. As for the L85...I assumed you had the Star L85. But since you have the academy...Id say your SOL. The academy L85 tends to recieve some of the worst AEG review that I have ever seen. poor construction, terrible quality internals...You have more chance of scoring with Lindsay Lohan then you do of making the academy L85 a sniper rifle. |

i like the look of the L85.... and with different internals would the gun not be bad anymore... unless there is something wrong with the body?
