MP5 A4 Battery uppgrades
Hi, first post so if you could bear with me. I've read everything I can find over the last few days on Airsoft. Just wondering for the MP5 A4 from TM the 8.4v mini (for adjustable stock), is it a major factor on limiting playing time? And if so are upgrades for that MP5 A4 available/difficult to do?

If I'm not wrong doesn’t the A4 have the full stock?

The maximum size NiCad battery that the A5 can carry in the standard foregrip is 8.4V 600mAh. This is practically useless for anything but stock guns. The maximum size NiMh battery is 8.4V 1400mAh, which works fine for my Guarder SP90 spring.
You can buy a Guarder Tactical Foregrip that is designed to fit a large battery, but make sure the looks suit you before you buy it. You can also mount the battery outside the gun in a battery bag or with just plain duct tape, but it can really kill the look of your gun if done improperly. There is also a special sling that can hold a large battery. I've never used the battery sling, but I fear the weight distribution would be cumbersome. |

Ok would a 3 point sling has that starp that gose a cross the gun, what about putting some kind of a pouch there. That would keep the weight in the mid of the gun.

If you want a large amount of battery power, you have to spend extra money or use the full stock version.
A 'large' battery will last forever. Any alternative will not last as long, and you will have to buy extra parts or bags to put it in the gun. So... it's your money. I think battery bags and stuff added outside is ugly. The full-stocked MP5 is not that big at all. |

I dunno Grey, that depends on the person, and the field. For example, at PBNation, it was great outside (I own an A4 version), but as soon as I hit the mock-up "house", I had to drop the MP5 and go for the pistol, the MP5 was just too cumbersome. Although I will admit, in the house it was like pot shots to anyone who came into range.
There are solutions, such as modifications to the grip (which would be the route I'd take). Then purchase a battery that will fit your newly-sized foregrip.

With the recent release of Intellect's 1400 mAh cells, the battery life issue has almost become a non-issue. This is 100 mA over what Marui sells as a LARGE battery. Furthermore, they are so dirt cheap ($17.99 at eHobbyAsia!) that it's hard to justify not packing a spare or three. Granted you'll obviously get more life and a lower IR from a Sub C pack but if you want to maintain the collapsible stock, you cannot go wrong with the 1400s.

The 8.4V 600mAh battery will give you a good 1000 shots (upwards of 1100 at times) from a stock MP5A5. That dropped for me in my A5 when I put in a PDI 150% spring, would get 400-500 shots (weather was cooler at that time) per charge.

And remeber, with a second battery, just change it when you are getting close to the "shot" limit of your gun at a conveniant (sp) break in the game / lunch etc.
If you get one of the Intellect 1400 mAh packs, it will last you roughly twice as long as a TM Mini. That at the very lest should get 90% of people through the morning games till lunch to change their battery out for the afternoon games. |

I've heard that the 1400mAh packs will actually get around 3-4 times as much runtime as the 600mAh minis.

If your wondering about a battery sling, talk to Ken from 007airsoft. I know he himself uses one on his mp5a5. It allows you to use as big and beefy of a battery as you want without having to carry the extra weight around on your gun.
