Almost all airsoft guns are DMR's due to semi only rules at most fields. Very rarely will you get to use full auto.
Personally I would go with a VFC Scar Heavy, plus the fact that you can dress it up to actually look like a DMR platform. I would normal say to get a GBBR, since that will teach you to treasure your shots unlike the 300+ rounds per mag AEG users. Unfortunately I am not sure of any good out of box GBBR, since they all need some loving care when you get them.

For "DMR" you can make anything into a "DMR" it depends what platform you want. SCAR-H is a lovely DMR platform, but mags are expensive, and proprietary. Just grab a VFC M4 with whateva tradesmarks you want and build from that, best externals. |

By best out of the box do you mean range and accuracy, reliability, functionality? What? Nothing out of the box is usually perfect and as long as your hop-up does its job barrel length had close to no effect. If you want a good brand of gun right out of the box get a VFC, they have a few DMR-ish models. If you're looking for overall performance out of the box with a DMR look and feel, then if recommend an RA-Tech Level III M14 EBR or a Systema M16 Final Evo or later (so you don't immediately need the hop mod). But then prepare to spend in upwards of $1,700 - $2,000. VFCs start at around $500 or so.

KWA are good guns, not the best if you intend to upgrade because of the 2 piece hop unit.
Most higher end AEG's are going to perform similarly out of the box. It is largely going to boil down to your aesthetic preference. I would go with something totally Marui compatible; if you intend to play a DMR role you're going to want a fair amount of upgrades, including hop-up. My vote would be for the VFC SPR 16. It uses regular M4 mags and it's real purdy. Last edited by Kozzie; April 28th, 2015 at 18:02.. |

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

Just about any gun you buy is going to need a new barrel group, and the mechbox re-greased and checked for compression.
If you could just BUY a solid DMR that shot 250ft, everyone would have one. |

Go with something that's fairly solid, but not too expensive. Your going to want to spend most of your money on internal upgrades and mods. I think I would stay away from KWA, I've heard about a lot of parts being proprietary and non-standardized, equaling hard to source/repair. If you like the SR25 platform, do some research on what is a solid, reliable gun, within a good budget, and see what is the best out of the box (slowly add your upgrades as you need them). You will ALWAYS have to upgrade and modify to get a proper functioning DMR, and not just a show gun.

Something that's not an AR. Something with a rotary hopup like an M14, AUG, or Sig55X.

I have a couple of other G&Gs... that worked great out of the box. Interested in this gun, I watched a bunch of Youtube vids (including Levelcap) going on about how good the G&G SR25 was out of the box. So I dropped the $500+ bucks, bought a bunch of G&G mags (at $50+ a pop), and new mag pouches.
My experience was completely unhappy. (Again, my 2 other G&Gs were decent, without any upgrades, so not a slam against the company or the platform). It arrived two days before the last game of the season. I didn't have anywhere to go test-fire it, so I loaded all my stuff up the night before the game, charged up the batteries, and changed my PC from the M4 platform to the SR25 platform. When I arrived at the field, I chrono'd the gun. I was hoping it would be within field limits, as I heard this could go over 400 FPS. Yup... I was well within field limits. I was shooting 185 FPS, with .20. Ok, clearly a defect. Sucked to have to re-arm my PC, mags, pouches, and all for the M4 again, (thank god I brought them) and it wasted 20 minutes of game time, but it is what it is. Contacted the store that sold it to me, who replied "not our issue... return it to G&G in St Catherines". They were nice enough to provide the address at least. I wanted to drive it down there, as it would be a 45 minute drive, and I could spend some time perusing Niagara Quartermaster. Nope... I had to mail it. $45 later, I sent it through the mail. I added package tracking, so I knew it had arrived. The G&G guy took a while to actually confirm that it did. A couple of weeks later I learned (after sending a few emails) that it was, in fact, defective, and they were replacing it. 3 Weeks after that. I got it back in the mail. I test-fired it in my basement, and confirmed that --at 20 feet-- it could put a hole in a cardboard box. It was winter, so I couldn't field it to see what it could do, or if it would live up to its rep. Early this spring, I decide that I would take it to a very, very reputable gunsmith. He disassembled it in front of me, (actually pointing out some flaws / scratches on the internals --as if it was refurbished), and walked me through what he would upgrade. He upgraded several parts, gave it a thorough cleaning / shimming, and tested it at around 400 fps (which was my request). Giddy with excitement, I reconverted my kit from M4 to SR25 for the first game of the season. When the game started, I found that I had to literally lob BBs at targets as close as 40 feet away. I (figuratively) could pick up a handful of BBs and throw them and get better range. So the season opener saw me lugging around a chunk of metal that looked really cool, but couldn't out-shoot a BlueJay coughing up an undigested sunflower seed. This Gun Doc is the best in the business, and he is going to investigate the issue, and I don't fault him at all. This gun, or maybe just me, is cursed. In all, a $500+ gun, $250 worth of mags, 60$ pouches, $300 upgrades... and it is a lemon.

Out of the box ? Well, the Real Sword SVD has an excellent reputation. I don't have any experience with it other than looking up close its beautiful external build quality. You might be interested in taking a look at it.
My RS T97b has great performance out of the box too.

The new gen ones have the rotary hop ups in them
Also another gun, I have used that seems to work rather well is the KJW KC02. Had a chance to play around with one that belongs to a buddy at siege last Weekend while it is a gbbr it worked and performance was good from what I saw. Last edited by _Whiskey_; April 28th, 2015 at 20:53.. |

John we clearly didn't account for the declination at the Hill437 field. Earth's magnetic pole drift is particularly impactful on SR25s all over the greater Hamilton Wentworth area I hear.
Clearly a lemon. Your patience with it and the guys that sold it to you far out range anything that I could muster up. Dressed up as a Blue Jay or not. :smack: Quote:
