hop up
First time played outside and see BB from my G&G MP5 SD MAX keep dropping after 120 feet. I can see players shooting at me and see their BBs flying by... mine dropping in front of them and the only way I can hit is put my weapon 30 degrees in the air.
I have 350 fps on .2 and maybe there is a problem with hop up unit? I do have hopup adjuster, but moving in in any way mostly do not affect trajectory. My KJW handgun with 320 fps shoots more far! Is there a FAQ or can anyone answer my questions: 1. Is hopup unit wear out? How many BBs it should be replaced? 2. What is hopup unit anyway? Can it be easily installed or needs a special tools and knowledge? 3. Where I can buy it and is it universal or very manufacturer/model specific? UPDATE: SOLVED! Hopup unit defect. Thanks. Have you adjusted the hop up?
Are you using 20's? Most stock hop up rubbers kind of suck its something alot of folks will replace right out of the box. The hop up unit itself should be fine its just the rubber youll wanna replace. Its easy to replace. Easier in some guns then others m4's are prolly the easiest mp5's are a lil more dificult as you have todisassemble more of the gun to get at the hop up. Lonex makes good rubbers. So does prometheus with the bridge nub. They arent expensive. Try to adjust the hop up and use heavier bbs (25 or 28) Youll get much better range then with 20's thats prolly the main reason the others have much better range is heavier bbs.

I remember you from yesterday yaric! Achien noticed your drop too. What weight we you using? My pdw was 350fps on 2s also but I was running 3s I had. Woulda preferred 28s if I had a chance. Edit: I could hit up to 150'

1. It's difficult to tell if the hop up rubber is worn out or not without seeing it in person, it might be dirty or just incorrectly adjusted. The hop up rubber does have to be replaced every so often, though it can take several thousand shots to wear one out, so unless you've owned that gun for years or are really trigger happy it shouldn't be a problem. Edit: after 5000 shots, the rubber is probably worn out.
2/3. The hop up rubbers and inner barrels or almost all AEGs are basically interchangeable, though the hop up unit (the frame which the rubber is inside of, to which the barrel is mounted) will be different from one gun to another. It shouldn't require special tools to open, and on MP5s it should be pretty easily reached (remove the one pin behind the magwell and slide the upper receiver off, then pull the hop up unit with inner barrel out of the upper receiver).

I guess you missed Steaths demo of the r-hop.. have you open up your mp5 before?
The hop up causes a nub to protrude into the inner barel which will nick the bb and cause it to spin upwards. Like a curve ball, it'll arc into the direction of spin. The upward spin will neutraluze the downward force of gravity for a while leading to greater distances. Too bad you didn't ask yesterday I coulda pop apart my pdw to show you the hop up unit. The first two upgrades for me on my aegs is battery and hopup ! On mobile; sorry for any spelling mistakes or autocorrects!

As hectic said, stock hop rubber have typically never been good, it's the best and cheapest upgrade you can do!
You COULD also go to an Rhop, depends how much you wanna spend |

You dont need to buy a hop up unit. Just a hop up rubber and nub (sometomes called chamber packing or bucking)
R hop takes a lil technical skill. Try this for a simaler result or google prometheus smooth chamber packing and bridge tensioner (u will have to get the packing from japan prolly tho so i suggest try this and you can swap the nub for a bridge that i think stealth sells) http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=2466

Once you open the gun the barrel will come out with the hop up unit attached there will be a lil c clip and some screws and such remove the screws and the clip the barrel and hop rubber will slide out (may take a bitbof pulling) the screws will remove the hop arm (the nub rests on that it may drop out when the barrel and rubber is removed) reassemble start by putting the rubber on the barrel and then insert in the hop unit then the cclip.
After that put the hop arm with the nub back in (i think its like the ak so the arm will stay attached to the unit) so slowly slide the arm into tue unit with the nub on it (holding the arm flat resting the nub and then tilting the barrel and unit onto the arm is easyest) once the arm is in push the adjuster lever on and ohld it in place while you put the screw in and away ya go

Not sure how close it is to the tm ( i was going off my mp5k it has an ak type hop up the rest of the mp5's seem to have an m4 type
Here this will help but you will have to disassemble alot of the gun to get at the hop up http://www.blessy.com/airsoft/mp5hop/hop6.htm

IF adjusting your hop up isn't affecting your trajectory (a lot) it's very possible that your hop up is broken. I recommend getting someone with experience to look at it before moving into advanced hop up mods

I will add that several people I know (including myself) have been having the same issue so far this year due to the colder temps. Mine drop even sooner then 100 feet.
Some guns are affected while most are not. This last weekend I changed from stock bucking to Guarder Clear and my M14 was shooting like a charm. Harder rubber buckings get even harder in the cold so it screws with your gun. The softer silicon buckings apparently hold up better to cold (the Guarder was night and day for me versus stock) Not sure if this is your issue but thought I'd share that. |
