Question Need Help Deciding.

Hi All,
im new to ASC and to the sport, I used to be into the paintball scene for a number of years but it lacks the realism that I seek, now im looking to dive into the world of AS.

Now I am looking to get a Sniper Rifle, but am unsure of which to get.
I have been looking at the ASG AW .308 springer.

reason for this is looks/performance/price and local shop stocks them, im not willing to drop $800+ on a rifle at the moment as theres alot of other gear i need to buy,

now my question to you all is, what rifle would you guys choose based on the l96 platform ? and why ? what are the real differences between name brands ?

the others I have seen are:
Well L96 AWP
C-Tac L96
Etc...

Edit:
so my choices are now down to:

ASG AW .308
Well L96 AWP
C-Tac L96

Thanks,
Proliphic

Well L96 AWP
Well G96D AW .338
AGM L96 AWP
UTG L96 AWP

All these models are the exact same. IE made by the same company.

Are you sure you really want a sniper rifle as your first gun?

Yes I am sure, I'm more into the sniper role then the "infantry" style play, I like the slow pace and tactical/stealthy style, I understand that alot of "Kids" think it is just cool, but I actually enjoy that style of play, i really have no desire for the full auto AEG's

can u explain your answer ? without saying "cuz u dont know what your doing" or "your too newb and u dont know how to shoot or to tell whos on your team". because im sure i can figure out who's on or not on my team and yes I do know how to shoot,
also im not just going to buy the gun and then the same day go join a game and expect to be accepted/great, i plan on taking the time to get to know the gun and how it shoots, learn more about the sport, spectate some games if possible get a feel for it all before jumping in,

As far as I know for sniper role in this area, unless you getting into a bigger event there isnt really much room for a sniper rifle. Alot of the non private fields around gta are all CQB and having to cock back every time in CQB is fustrating.

Im wanting to get into the sniper role or support gunner role. Both are more my style but both are only good in the bigger games. I've heard from friends and read alot that if you start with a standard AEG you can have abit more fun as you work up and learn the fields and even in the area better then you can with a s.rifle.

One of the main reason it's that a sniper is pretty expensive to make it good compared to AEG. You have to be ready to put a couple of hundred on it.

Doombringer's link points out the common reasons. An airsoft gun that has the body of a sniper rifle, doesn't really make it shoot further or more accurately. Regardless of the body of the gun, you're still using air to fire a very light sphere, that has to move slower than a certain velocity in order to be "gamable".

If you're not going to spend more than $800 on a rifle, then generally speaking, if you can hit a guy with a "sniper" rifle, you can hit a guy with an AEG.

So because the sniper rifle doesn't necessarily perform any better than an AEG, and is often worse off, people recommend that you don't start off with a sniper rifle, because newbies are always disappointed when they realize that there's really no such thing as an effective designated sniper role in airsoft. At least not without putting a lot of money into a rifle, and being allowed to shoot with a hot gun.

i understand that I will need to upgrade the rifle, that is fine, im not looking to have an amazing rifle out of the box, also I'm not really interested in the indoor CQB play, I like the larger outdoor games.

I know all about why everyone discourages newbies from going for the sniper/scout role. i know you dont shoot people in the head when their torso/legs are exposed, I know you dont shoot people in close range, I know that im not going to instantly become an airsoft phantom killer with the purchase of a rifle, I know the role is more then just stealth shooting, its about relaying comms about movements, enemy strongholds, etc..

so please spare me the posts about why I shouldnt get one and help me to make an informed descision on the rifle to buy,

cheers,
Proliphic

I understand that and am going to be putting money into upgrades, just not all at once when i first get the gun. aswell I wont be joining up to any games right away. no sense going out half-assed and un-prepared.

I heard a lot of good talk about the Tokyo Marui VSR-10. Some people gonna confirm if it's worth it, but you can still go and look about this gun. But i' m not sure it's L96 platform.

I was just pointing it out since the logo of the team is in the picture. This might mislead some people here, just saying.

as for what rifle to get, I suggest reading, reading and reading. There's no reasons to create a thread about; What should I get ? if you didn't read the forums.
