Tactical Tailor MAV set ups
Looking to see how others have their MAVs set up. Big thing i'm struggling with now is hydration. My current set up involves zip ties and is definitly ghetto...
I'm also looking for tips for a 1st line. AS you can see I have the one piece MAV with X harness. Going dominant side to non dominant. On the base layer I have a condor utility pouch(may ditch this) Then I have two 3 mag shingles side by side. Then a TT hardcase(for my phone) with a dump pouch below The next layer rubber training knife MP5 mag pouch for my G18 long mags. Milspex monkey admin pouch(love this) 2x TT flashbang pouches(perfect for AI grenades) pistol mag pouch Here you can see my Condor hydration carrier ghetto attached to the back. |

If you clasp the molle attachment strap without weaving it through the pals webbing you can slide the mav strap through it.

The carrier is a little too short plus the snaps have a tendency to unsnap

Hey dude, I do believe I sold you that MAV with the hydration carrier?
What I used to do, (perhaps even more ghetto) was tape the upper straps to the lower straps on the hydro carrier, since the button snaps would not line up, thus making it more comfortable and snug. In the end, it's what works.. who cares if it's pretty. Past that, I more or less had it setup the same way you did. I just had less mags on my off-hand side.

Another way to get an authentic "it works in the field" look is use Paracord.

Forever kaos not sure if its because its late or I'm just dumb but i really can't picture how that would work.
Authentic? I've used zip-ties in the field so thats authentic enough for me lol. Anyone tried other gucci hydration carriers that may work better? |

I've got a condor hydration carrier attached to the back of my TT-MAV2 + X-harness in almost the same fashion. Once adjusted properly, it works great. Who cares if it's ghetto as long as it works!

Here is my setup. I use wrapped paracord through the molle webbing for the attachment. I'm 6'1" and when I wear the rig the lower belt falls about 1 inch below the molle straps. The paracord provides the connection but remains flexible and comfortable when pressed against your back by a full bladder.
Current setup holds 10 AK mags/15 AR mags, 3 pistol mags, water, BB's, maps & admin stuff.

butthurt for not having a user title

Can you guys give me some pros/ cons for 1-piece vs. 2-piece MAVs?
I'm leaning towards the 2-piece so I can just unbuckle to get out of it (whereas I have to crawl out of my knock-off currently), but if there's particular benefits to a 1-piece that I'm unaware of, I'll listen up. This advice will go towards purchasing a real one this time. |

The 2 piece is awesome for dawning/doffing the rig. Once adjusted it sits just as comfortably as any 1 piece chest rig I've used.
Consideration is that you technically lose 2 columns of webbing due to the buckles in the front. They actually sell a little patch that attaches over the buckles to give you those two columns back, but it makes dawning/doffing the rig more difficult by adding velcro to the mix. Some folks are HUGE proponents of running primary mags centered on their stomach (which a 1-piece allows) but I never saw the value in this if you ever have to lie prone. If you can live with 2 less columns, and don't mind having a defined "Strong side and weak side" I would recommend the 2 piece hands down.

You want the best way? Use thigh rigs. I can add pictures of two of my MAVs running hydration pouches later tonight.

Leg rigs are a great way to keep your torso free of bulk. Personally not for me, I feel the weight alot more when it's on my hips/waist vs. my shoulders.

To be honest, I kind of like both designs. I have a 1 piece, but i'm sort of getting tired of having to throw it on like a shirt. If you're wearing body armor or loose clothing it can be a pain in the ass. I used mine on the range the other weekend and it kept getting caught on the arm sleeve pockets of my issued rain jacket. So if in a pinch you needed to dawn your shit real quick, split front may be the way to go. I might just buy the split front and change back and forth depending on what i'm doing on my excersizes. The MAV is cheap enough and i'm rich enough to afford both. DS Tactical is selling the 1 piece MAV in CADPAT TW and Arid for $43.99 in their outlet store section. Thats where I got my MAV. Regular price for the MAV there is $67 and the 2 piece MAV is $81. Personally for me, I would vote against getting the H Harness addition. It helps keep the straps from tangling, but because the rig is front heavy, it just hangs forward enough that the crescent of the harness rides on the back of your neck. Even with a hydration bladder on, it still digs into my neck, so I ditched it for now. Just throwin' that out there. It all boils down to personal preference but if you can, find a buddy with a MAV and try it on, or try on a similar piece of kit. Hope this helps.
