Ghilli Suit, Stalker, Tracker or Poncho

Good Day gents.
How are things going, i am a new registered user on this forum and having som questions.
Why here??
Most of the people here are playing Airsoft way longer than me and know more about it.
I have used the search button but could not find my answers.
This might me a frequently asked question, so exuse me if the answer is on this forum.

I am the team sniper and exploring the possibilities of sniping.
In europe (most of al Belgium and France) the Mil-sims are played with AEG's.
I am the bastard that wants to be the sniper, thanks to my boss i do have the financial possibilities to full fill that position. :tup: ;-) :-)
I am the team sniper for a good year and thinking of buying a Ghillie Suit.
After a good evening of searching on the internet i found out that there are 3 type's of suits.
A stalker, Tracker and a Poncho, wich one should i take???
I know that there are Snipers on this forum, i saw some picture's.
Please help me, By means of this forum or PM.

That’s some thing that I have tried, it was a total disaster even after the necessary modifications
I also have time as an issue, working 50 hours a week with out school in the evening results in long day's an little to no sleep.

What kind of ghilli do you have CDN_Stalker??

Making your own is allot cheaper. However it is very time consuming.

Home made you can also customize to your AO.

Of the three you listed it would depend on the amount of movment you plan on doing and what kind of postitions you usually take.

I would advise against a hood, it muffles the sounds around you and you miss allot.

Maybe you could buy the kit then if you failed to make one, then you can put it together and costumise it to the way you like it. It is expensive but like you said you make the dough. I have canadian combats as a base for mine. I bought mine at a paintball shop used for 60 dollars if you ask me that was a steal.

Mine started life as a poncho (100% homemade) then I realized it's a major pain to deal with in thick brush, snagging onthe outside with branches, on the inside with my gear. Cut it up, sewed canvas on the front of a woodland jacket, relocated the pockets, glued the netting onto it, got it messy in rain and mud.

Ok what i got so far is.

No hood, its muffle's the sound.

My choise depends on the amount of movement.

I dont want to self assemble, ik dont have the time en patience for it.
My last attempt was very frustrating :-|
And the cash aint the problem.

I am a medium mover, i move around with the team, i do operate on my own but have radio contact with the team.
If i am correct it should be the "Stalker" version???

Can't wait to see the look of that Ghillie mate... 60$ of materials... what have you got on that? that's without the time it takes to make a ghillie... oh roughtly a good 20-30 hours?

Yes about that time it took me longer, S***wing around with that jute and stuff.
400$ for an hand made ghilli that aint cheap.
I saw them on i-net for arround 150$Us wel lets say with shipping arround 200$ maybe 250$.

Why sow expensive, just curious

I made mine with a base BDU (1 size larger than usual), added netting, then the jute.

Took me 60+houres.

For the hood, I'd go for the hood, because if you go with the boony hat aproach, well, I personnaly don't like it because :

1- it don't break the shape of the head verywell
2- When you turn your head, people see a big lump of grass turning
3- The jute and branches end up sticking you in the neck
4- The boony make your gogle fog like crazy when crawling
5- If you want to remove your hat, you have to hold it somehow in your hand
6- when you crawl in thick brush, it tend to snag on branch and fall on your face or to the ground, making you do unessesary movement to replace it.


After all that, Im converting my ghillie suit to have a hood on it. It wont really muffle the sound, because it's going to be made of thin mesh.

Rule of thumb is 60% natural vegetation and 40% fake stuff such as jute, and garnish, but this is airsoft afterall, like people been saying the best out there is the one ghillie suit you make, you want to make it so that it blends with the enviroment you are playing in, or at least to the best of that. the only thing I would recomend you buying is the jute thread, www.ghilliesuits.com has the best prices on the jute by far, as many say, it is very time consuming to make, but the end results are worth all that time spent into construction of the ghillie.

me personally I prefer only the top, rather than the full body suit, as someone said it snags onto branches and whatnot, what i use for the head piece is the Shemagh, then my helmet cover, it gets rather hot, but it is comfortable, and the shemagh keeps the mosquitos at bay.
