(2 questions)boot resole, Vibram or... and Helmet project

I have a slight issue, my pair of Altama Desert Combat soles has slowly been worn down. So when I need to get these resoled, hopefully they will last me in a year or when I could get a job the moment I turn 18, I was wondering if Vibram is the best material to use for resoling. I do not want to waste $85 dollars for a resole that will get worn down too quickly. Does anyone have a suggestion for any material that wear down slower other then Vibram? Otherwise I will just get the Vibram or maybe buy a new pair at Ebay again.

Number 2; is there any legality concerning with a school project of making an M1 steel pot helmet? I would like to make one instead of buying one and paint it to my specification. The design is going to be styled after the Hellsing anime series' grunt loadout, the helmet will include my added personal insignia. I do not want to come to school and start on it and then learned that I could have been expelled for making an item that could be classified as a weapon. The reason why is that I asked to make a replica riot shield out of plexiglass but was denied for it being classified as a weapon. Expulsion is not cool for me.

Thanks for the future suggestion, redzaku

Can't answer first question, but for the second one,

You know it's like, 10$ in a surplus, right?

And why would you do THAT for a school project?

I worked shoe repair for 7 years, and we sold more vibram soles then anything, hell my Danners have vibram soles and they are 6 years old and have very little wear. Only problem I found with vibram rubber soles compaired to their softer poro soles is when they get below -10 they dont grip with shit, but the poro soles do grip at cooler temps but wear down faster casue they are a spongue type rubber.

Well not according to my local surplus store, it cost 25 dollars and it has a UN blue colour scheme with bumps on it. Are you sure it cost online for 10 without shipping? Cause I wanted it to be the best thing done before graduating highschool. Cheers all.
