Multicam

Kind of a dumb question, and I suspect its something to do with the lighting/photography of these 2 pictures but is there 2 versions of multicam? One a more tan color and the other a darker green

I have these pants:

and i was looking at this top

And by looking at the pictures they look like 2 different shades, but like I said i think its just different cameras/settings.

That pair of Propper pants don't look like real Multicam to me, but maybe it's just the lighting...

They have the "Multicam" tag thingy (Yes I know you could sew that on anything).

Guess i wont know until order.

Mostly lighting, but there is a small difference between the two due to the dying process. I have bits and pieces in both, and the Tru-Spec is much more comfortable, especially in hot weather.

The best comparison I can make is that the Propper seems as though it were 'printed' on one side of the fabric, whereas the Tru-Spec was dyed 'into' the fabric. I doubt that makes any sense technically, but whatever Propper did, my stuff feels a bit like snow pants rather than the usual texture of rip-stop or twill.

My $0.02: get the Tru-Spec. Hope that helps.

Im thinking about picking up some multicam for my self, I dont know which is better Propper or Tru-Spec? I was also looking at Crye P but that would hurt my pockets. sorry to invade you thread here.

my biggest worry is that it was massively different as in how the pictures look. I wish i went with the Tru-spec stuff first as your right, it does look lighter.

Another question related to this, do you guys rock the Multicam vest or do you go with a solid color like Khaki or Brown.

As you can guess by the eBay stuff that I'm linking, I'm not a small dude and all the Multicam vests that I'm finding are in the 200 to 500 range, but without Multicam it drops it about 100 bucks or so.

Propper uses real Multicam, same as Tru Spec, there's no difference in colors as huge as on the pictures.
For the Crye Type a very good (and cheaper) alternative is the OPS gear sold by Ur-Tactical.

Probably a result of the material. Multicam is multicam, but multicam on Nyco-Poly twill is going to look different than Multicam on Cotton, for example.

I think it will fit me because it appears to be 49in around at the gut and still has some adjustments expansion points still and and its in my price range.

That's what I thought too at first, but my Propper ACU rip-stop and BDU twill are identical in terms of colour. It's definitely the way it was dyed; apparently Tru-Spec buy their fabric from Crye, whereas Propper obtained permission from Crye to produce it themselves, which would account for the price difference. Pretty sure I heard that on Lightfighter, but I could be wrong.

I have that vest in OD, works well. very very adjustable, I have a 53" gut and it fits like a glove. only thing I dont like about it is it doesnt breath too well, it defiantely needs some sort of OTW, or under armour on a hot day. its great in the spring and fall, and indoors.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought DURO has the exclusive rights to make MultiCam Fabric and I don't think Propper is in the textile business. They just manufacture the uniforms. There are different fabrics of course as the Propper BDU is a 65/35 Poly/Cotton Twill and the ACU has the Ripstop added. They also have the Flame Resistant ACU with NYCO Fabric.

The different colors come from different portions of the roll. Meaning one part of a roll of MultiCam fabric can be lighter than another part. Stock photos from Tru-Spec and Propper may look different given where they fabric was chosen for those uniforms in the shot.

Plus Tru-Spec just has the 50/50 NYCO BDU, so if you compare that fabric to Propper's 65/35 fabric, then that could give a distinct difference as well. At least those our my thoughts.
