Pistol Aiming

In the real steel world, there are people shooting with both eyes opened vs one eye, how about Airsoft? Since the distance to target is closer do you guys tend to shoot with both eyes opened or only one? Do you still focus on the far sight or the target?

I have both my eyes open when i use an optic, but my accuracy all goes to shiz when i try it on iron sights haha but im training my eyes to be able to do it soon enough

Both eyes for everything. Especially in airsoft where you might need to modify your trajectory so having depth perception is a big help. Also the distance used by an airsoft pistol is less than a distance shot at a range of course but I don't think that should modify your technique as the distances seen in airsoft with pistols (at least home) are pretty imaginable situations for Self Defence or law enforcement.

That and in airsoft VS range you actually need to walk around over god knows what terrain, I'd also like to have depth perception for that :P

Doesn't matter how close you should have both eyes open even if your engagement is within a couple feet or as far as 50 meters

Ok but do you still focus on the far sight or the target?

Both eyes, and my focous tracks the front sight to the target and then focus on the target as the shot breaks to track the shot.

For making longer 100+ foot shots, I close one eye. Otherwise, both are open.

Both eyes open at all times, and front sight focus is quite important, even for longer range stuff.

Your eyes wont be able to focus on both the front and rear, but you'll be able to pickup the rear sights in your peripheral vision to properly aim the shot.

For Pistols both eyes open definatly because you can easily adjust you shots. For rifles its ALWAYS both eyes open expecially when your looking through a sight because you need you peripheral vision so you dont risk something running in front of your line of fire without you seeing it. At least thats what I was taught. To each his own.

Target, Use my peripherals and muscle memory for lining up the sights. If it's a shot I really can't afford to miss(yet have time) I kinda do a sweep with my eyes, Starting at the target then front sight and it's position relative to target and relative to rear sight then back to targe. It all can happen very quickly and doesn't NEED to happen in most situations where reflex and muscle memory are more important. Also if you keep your pistol drawn and pointed like you should (in your field of view just like you were shooting it) than you won't need to prepare for each shot or anything like that.

What jamesbond said is actually what I was trying to get at in less words. Though the part about KEEPING the pistol in front of you and not at the low ready makes a huge difference in your initial shot accuracy.

The only time where I close an eye is when I am well hidden and try to take a very long shot, near the maximum effective distance of my pistol. Then I can relax, breath, take a few seconds to align my sights perfectly and fire. Otherwise it is both eyes open and focusing exclusively on the target.

With time I found that it's easier to rely on my muscle memory as Mitchell12 said. It's all in the wrist as some would say, and the more I use my pistols, the more I can rely on my wrist to align my sights correctly, so I don't have to aim as much as before, or at least, spend a lot less time aiming and taking more reflex shots that actually hit, even at range.

I'm left eye dominant and right handed so I always have both eyes open with a pistol. Quell stance is the common name.

I focus on the front sight and line it up on the target. What they call flash sight picture.
