Breaking News – Australians to Adopt MultiCam for Use in Afghanistan (yeah, them too)

After the US adopted it as their "OEF Camo" for the Army, the British adopted it as MTP (granted, slight differences in the pattern, but... not that different), SOF of several countries (including Russia) uses it, now the Aussies are in the process of adopting it too...

Goddamit the whole planet will end up MC'ed!

Breaking News – Australians to Adopt MultiCam for Use in Afghanistan

In a shocking decision, the Australian military announced today that they are going to conduct an extended wear trial of the MultiCam pattern for troops serving in Afghanistan. Like in the US and UK, Australian Special Operations Forces have long used MultiCam due to its increased effectiveness. Following their lead, Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare announced the change to the new pattern today at the biannual Land Warfare Conference in Brisbane. By “change” we mean the extension of the SF wear trial that has been going on for years.

“Special Forces soldiers have said this is the uniform they want to wear,” Mr Clare said. “The camouflage pattern provides troops with greater levels of concealment across the range of terrains in Afghanistan – urban, desert and green. It also makes it easier for our troops to do their job.”
The plan calls for all Australian troops going ‘Outside the Wire’ will be outfitted in MultiCam. What is really interesting is that Mr Clare discussed issuing the same uniforms used by his SOF which are the Crye Precision combat uniforms rather than the standard DPCU in a different camo pattern. However, he also stated that “I have also instructed the Defence Materiel Organisation to pursue the purchase of a licence to provide for the potential manufacture of this uniform in Australia if the extended trial is successful,” Mr Clare said. Could this be the groundwork for an Australian MTPesque creation?
Furthermore, does this initiative mean the demise of the short lived Disruptive Pattern Midpoint Uniform unveiled earlier this year? The whole point of the DPMU was to alter the DPCU’s pattern slightly to be more effective in Afghanistan. Designed by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), it combined the colors of the two uniforms the Australian Army currently uses.

So much for ASC elites referring to MC as "AirsoftPat" anymore. Lol, looks like "NATOPaT" is more appropriate now.

I still think DPDU looks much better but after seeing pics of SOTF I have to say in their AO MC seems to be working better than DPDU (there was one specific pic where two soldier were side by side)

I always thought of the Aussies as the surfer cousin in the Commonwealth... the guy who stands back and says "I'm not wearing that, that looks gay man."

I guess too much Fosters + too much sun = Aussies went a little loony.

I don't think it's a fashion trend....

The stuff works ... and everyone knows it ...

Of course it was not good enough for the BRITs till they "anglicized" it

Simply because of cheap reproductions, it became the noob camo of choice, largely because those that could afford the Crye/Dropzone stuff looked cool (mainly because they were experienced airsoft players). CADPAT was like that years ago too, many viewed it as noob camo back then. MC just replaced it.

Haha.

I've always thought of woodland camo and "hunting" camo as the real noob camo.

Ya, me too since it was easier to find and cheaper to buy. Baffled me too (was told a long time ago by Sonic, the vets didn't like my team because we all wore CADPAT, which was considered 'noob camo', and I got confused because the set cost me $100 for just top and pants. Lol)

Work for arid and semi arid places. But I'm pretty sure everyone will turn back to the old greener camo they had before. Or develop a new one for a new war.

Every war has it's new camo trend.

Before people get too carried away, understand that they are doing an extended trial. An extended trail does not constitute a permanent change. It however could become one in the future.

I love my old woodland stuff. In fact all the camo in my kit is analog, no digital or multicam at all.
