I have done quite a bit of reading, on this forum and others, video reviews, retail shop writeups, but alot of what ive been reading / seeing is people claiming that "their" rifle is the best.

so I was hoping that maybe someone on here knows more about them then i do or is someone owns one that is crap, or someone that owns one that is really well made and and accurate/reliable.

they are all in the same price range, and id hate to buy option A only to find out that I could have asked and found out A is a lemon and option B or C is the way to go. or that A has 10000 upgrade parts and B,C have 2 upgrade parts available.

Some generalities about bolt guns vs. AEGs
1. In practical terms there's no difference in range and accuracy if each is tuned up nicely. Out of the box they may both shoot like sh*t.

2. Clone bolt guns are pretty lousy...but at least the price has come down to reflect the quality level. There's a reason one L96 is $...and another is $$$. They look the same, specs might be comparable, etc....the devil is in the details, fit, finish, compatibility with upgrade parts. You can litterally buy a crooked rifle.

3. If your rifle is shooting ok...the fastest way to ruin it is to "upgrade" it.

4. There's no "upgrading" a part at a time...at least no single part that will have a significant impact on performance. The one single part that may do that is the spring...otherwise it's usually a combination of parts that makes for a result. Goes for both AEGs and bolt guns.

5. While there are quite a few parts that may fail in an AEG mechbox...due to its design there are definitely specific parts in a BA trigger mech that are subject to failure. And replacing those may cascade into replacement of many other parts. In airsoft it's not "if" it will break but rather "when", "how likely" and "what's it going to take with it"

6. Not so much now...but in general BA parts are more expensive relative to AEG parts. So "I'll just replace the tigger group" ends up costing as much as a mechbox overhaul.

Aper: I think Propiphic's old avatar was one of the "predefined graphic avatars", so he just chose it because it looks cool. I don't think he actively went through old posts, found a member's avatar, and set it as his own. =P

Actually, the "harm" part isn't even an issue for most newbies, since if you show up with a gun that shoots 450FPS, the game op won't let you play with it.

Newbies are discouraged from going into the sniper/scout role because like I said, sniper rifles don't shoot any further or more accurately than a regular AEG, yet they require you to sink a lot of money into them, and fire followup shots far slower.

Basically, if they're in range for you to shoot them, they're in range to shoot you, AND they're able to get off a lot more rounds in your direction than you can in theirs.

So the idea of discouraging newbies from sniping is not about harming someone (because you generally can't play with a gun that shoots hard enough to harm someone), but because you'll probably get frustrated that you can't "snipe someone while you're out of their range" - if you fire a shot, and miss, then it turns into a 2-way firefight.

Because of the range issue as well, you'll have to either wait for someone to get close, or you'll have to get in close yourself. There's no "waiting at the top of the hill, while the rest of the squad moves closer so that their guns are effective". If your gun is effective on the hill, then the rest of the squad should stay on the hill as well.

I'm not trying to discourage you from getting a sniper, it's just that it sounds like you're not fully understanding the disadvantages of being a sniper.
It would be cheaper, and probably more fun, to just go through route of converting an M4 into a DMR or something.

If you want to play that stealth role, why not pick up an AEG? Your gun does not limit you to a style of play, per-say. (Not going to be a DMR guy when you're toting a minigun!)

That way in the event of things going south, you have the auto/full capabilities.

If you're dead set on it, then it's your call.
The CA M24 is great out of the box (so I've heard) ditto on the TM VSR-10.

I get the cons of the sniper role, I know I cant throw 30 rounds downrange per sec, but thats the challenge I like, and the style of play i like.

to those that are actually responding with helpful posts/recommendations/knowledge thank you..

There is a lot of info in this forum explaining why don't getting a sniper rifle as a first gun, including the one that Doombringer just posted.
I am into the sniper role as well, but in airsoft, sniper rule is not the way most "sniper fan" (include me) would initially expect. Don't assume you will like the airsoft sniper role because you are into the sniper role, and know the related issues in theory. You can decide that after going to few games - maybe even few seasons. Starting from AEG that is also a DMR platform is probably a good idea.

ok we seem to be getting sidetracked back to the "here's why you shouldn't get a sniper rifle as a first gun"

I didnt ask if you thought i should start with a sniper rifle or an AEG,

and it shouldnt matter if it is my first airsoft gun or my 20'th,

I said Here is a list of rifles that i am looking at is there a difference in the quality/performance of those listed ?

let me ask this a different way then, if the guns I have listed in the OP were your options, which one would you choose and why ?

cheers.

G&G G96 in your list is actually gas powered, unlike the other two which are spring powered...

Instead of asking people on the open forum, seek out the actual snipers here and ask them the question.

Since you are age verified, why don't ask the sellers of snipers and ask them about their experience with it. You may also find yourself a deal.
