I wonder what they had in mind during development of that ACU pattern. It couldn't be that they only used black/white-monitors on some viewing systems to prove that pattern? Or those militaries know something about it that we don't do....

But I guess when it comes to comparing different color-schemes ACU will fall way back on other patterns. At least we found our first "No-Go-Camo-Pattern" right now. :smack: ...pointing out on color-effectiveness! Cut and functionality is quite good on that new Combat Uniforms.

When you know that the 25th ID (Stryker) tested the Multicam then you really wonder what the army had in mind!!!!

Multicam was tested developped as part of the Future Force Warrior Program, independantly of the Army Procurement Center's testing of new uniform patterns. When they heard about Multicam, they agreed to have a look at it. Although the Army basically agreed that Multicam was superior to other patterns tested, Crye priced themselves out of the competition, largely due to their "sole manufacturer" stipulation.

Incidentally, that photo you posted is commercial reproduction uniform using licensed Crye material (looks like a Dave's shirt, actually). Throwing US rank and insignia on a BDU doesn't make it issue. That cut of shirt in that pattern was never used in the Scorpion testing.

It'll probably be a while before anyone can compare the new version(s?) of acupat fairly. It was pretty clear from the start that the originals were lacking.

I remember one guy saying that he liked the idea, because if there's bushes around then hiding isn't a problem, with any camouflage, but he really liked something that didn't stand out in urban areas.

I had this picture BEFORE commercial repros were being sold. I can contact the guy who sold it since I still have his address (He has sold about 40 sets of CCU uniform and he all got them from Ft Lewis).

Theres some pics from a battle we had recently. Multiple patterns were used. Tiger Stripe, woodland (3-4 shading variations), and 1 flectarn jacket. It was very lush and bright in some areas, and very bright in others. Hope these help some.

Has anyone some updates on how the Multicam Pattern is spreading lately? I haven´t found many new post on this issue round the net for quite a while. Is it dying or maybe only alive in Canada/US regions? In Europe most of the shops I know that had offered gear in that pattern have taken those items out of stock.

Hi Rizzo,
I have a friend who knew a German WW2 vet. The story is he went to Russia and was one of the lucky few to get out. Anyways, he was giving away old clothing and I think he gave away a reversable WW2 pullover that the mountain troops use to wear. It looks old with leather buttons and rusted sinch things on the cuffs. There are repairs init here and there and on the back a very faded P and W with a space between them. The one side is green while the other is white (or looked to be whgite at one time). If it is real it's a crazy peice of history. I don't know whether to keep it or give it away to a museum. From the checking I have done it appears very real. Can you give me any suggestions as to find out more about it? I would ask the man who gave it to my friend but I believe he has alsheimers.

ACU is the first camo designed specifically to work against the human brain, and NOT directly blend into an evironment. Obviously some adjustment is needed, but i've taken pictures of my ARPAT with various backgrounds and it gives the optical illusion of changing color with each background. It's more effective if your in the enemy's peripheral vision, lighter colors (grey, sand, acu gray green) are less quickly detected by the human eye than dark colors (loam, forest green, black), which is also why theres NO black in ACU, black is not a naturally occuring color, and shadows are GRAY not black.
Despite being a pretty terrible airsoft camoflauge (it's best used at ranges of 200 meters), its absolutely amazing at night, I had people looking for me, and they couldnt spot me until they were 15 feet away.

I'm impressed.

lol

Actually, it impressed Zeon during one of the night games last year. I have to agree that ACU works really well at night, Zeon walked right in front of me and I scared the shit out of him. His quote was, "OMFG, I'll never make fun of ACU ever again."

But then again, he's getting old... and blind, and a bit senile. So that probably doesn't account for much.

I really like the pattern in ACU, colour may not be the best chosen, but I think it looks great (even if it's not that combat effective).

Hey, I'm back after several months...

I like those Multicam Pictures! I got me a set of Multicam BDU myself and I am waiting to use it first time during our next games in April... maybe I can finally get in touch with it and how it really works in the field.
