Little tip for Wee/Wasatch users
Alright I came-up with this simple little adjustment that makes the HSGI and clone rigs with integrated pouches much easier and more pleasent to use.
The common complaint with these is that they collapse and get baggy when there are no mags in them. M4 and other short mags (especially airsoft) also tend to sit too low to effectively grab ahold of (without pulls). So here is my simple solution. You aren't even going to need pictures to follow this one! 1) Buy some pipe insulation. The kind that looks like a small, hollow pool noodle with a slit in it. Mine were 1/2" and I wouldn't go much bigger. 2) Cut the insulation to the same length as the front of the rig. 3) Slide the insulation into the first double mag pouch and along the front of the rig under the mag pouch dividers. When it reaches the far end then you push the free end down and into the bottom of the single mag pouch. Your done! Now your rig fits fairly consistantly regardless of how many mags it's holding because the insulation keeps the bottom of the mag pouches full all the time. The mags now sit about 1.5" out of the pouches and are MUCH easier to grab. People using larger mags could split the insulation length-wise to add less height while still taking up the slack caused by empty pouches. My only disclaimer is that I haven't gamed this mod, but I have done a bunch of reload drills with it and it's much improved from stock.
