Creating a usable map of your field

Hi all,

This type of article may have been posted previously, in which case I apolgize.

As a result of setting up the Milsim for FVA, I wanted a map of the field that was reasonable accurate and had a military style grid. I found some software that works well with most GPS units. I hope you find this useful.

You can read the PDF I created here :

I will try to add some detail once I have the Milsim finished.

Cool, That'd be good for radio talk, especially on fields such as FR old field.

What about google-maps? Just print-screen, paste, and overlay a grid. Gimp has a grid-overlay feature.

Very few rural areas have the new 2 meter resolution that make it useful for maps. All three major fields in the Winnipeg area still have the grainy look in Google Maps and Google Earth. One has had aerial photos done, the other is a bit small to warrant that. The third is looking into it. Expensive, but quality.

Our main field is like that, just a greenish blob. We have another field that has be done in 2m resolution, with a nice big billowy cloud right over top of it.

google maps

They don't even have anything for my part of the Fraser Valley, besides which we are under a heavy evergreen tree canopy. It would be cool to place a nice air or sat photo of the area as a background though.

Or just go to your local MNR and get a topo map of your area.... then photocopy as necessary.

Do you have a reference number for the field as it relates to a BC topographic map?
