Bergans Dermizax camo jacket (Norwegian M05)
Behold, the beast!
Original Bergans "JAKKE NORSK KAMUFLASJE", Norwegian Special Forces. This has got to be the best designed military jacket ever. Dermizax is supposed to be even better than Gore Tex (breathability, waterproofness, ...) and you can just put it in the washing machine to clean it, no special maintenance products needed. I will be testing this baby in two weeks when I'm heading for the North Cape and northern Norway, Sweden and Finland. Can't wait! Compared to Swedish ECWCS-type jacket, Swedish flag placed carefully on sleeve for demonstrational purposes only ;-)

Very nice!
I'd love to get my hands on a set of both styles. |

Nice jacket. I'd buy it in OD.

The Dermizax was subjected to the first test: 5 days of rain on the Belgian Rock Werchter festival. Not a drop came through, excellent breathability and a fully adjustable hood which still gives excellent visibility.
Not really a hardcore test, but it did rain for hours and hours :-)

Hi, Smintjes,
where did you get this fine peace of equipment in Europe? Any chance who-ever-they-may-be might have an other one up for sale? Do you happen to know whether Bergans offers long sizes as well? Thanks! Cheers, mark23 |

I got it from someone who works at the company who imports Bergans into Belgium. I don't think you can buy them in any stores, even military shops in Norway sell only the Sympatex-version and not the new Dermizax. Best bet is to contact the company who imports Bergans into Canada, maybe send an e-mail to Bergans in Norway to ask them who does Canadian sales.
Anyway, I'm back from my trip to northern Norway and Sweden and I got to use the jacket quite alot. It is simply awesome. I did a hike to the summit of a mountain on the Lofoten Islands (one of the most rainy places on earth) and the Bergans performed fantastically. Absolutely wind- and waterproof, and better than expected breathability. Only complaint that I might have is that it's quite big. Normally I have all my military jackets in XL, and it would seem that I had better taken a L in this one. Nonetheless, it wasn't inconvenient at all since I can easily wear some layers underneath in winter. (Lame Superman pose on a rough ferry ride ) EDIT: I just saw you live in Karlsrühe, so better contact the German importer then. Or go to your local outdoor shop and ask them with whom they order there Bergans gear. And my iPod fitted so perfectly in the sleeve pockets I suspect the Norwegian military of having it as standard equipment :-)
