10-13 teeth chewed?
Hi guys,
I am wondering why my plastic pistons keeps getting chewed. gun is an ICS M4, stock internals with AoE corrected. The first white ICS piston's teeth were completed chewed. Now the second white piston set is missing last 2-3 teeth. I am learning as I go...

Does your gun jam frequently?
Chewing the whole rack is a pre-engagement issue where the sector picks up the piston when it hasnt reached its resting point. Most often due to jamming. The last 2-3 teeth is a common weak piston failure, sometimes just due to having a shit piston, too much torque being applied to it, someone assembling the mechbox wrong and the piston is jammed in position, or the piston is too big for that mechbox. When you assemble the mechbox, insert and allen key or thin screwdriver through the air nozzle and push the piston back. It should move freely, aside from the spring tension. If it POPS or is jammed, its because its not sitting in the rails. |

what are you doing exactly for your aoe adjustment and how are you doing it?
stripping the whole or most of the piston is premature engagement due to compression jamming. Either you have a nozzle to bucking seal failure that seals enough to keep air in the system but not good enough to shoot the bb, either that or your hop is set too high and is creating too much resistance causing it to compression jam. Path of least resistance in either scenario is back through the piston so it delays the piston travel and the gears grab in the middle of the forward stroke. If you are using a 1 tooth or partial steel rack piston, the rack could be failing and caving in, causing plastic teeth to bear the release load, teeth progressively fail backwards towards pickup. post pics of the piston.

I futz with V2s, V3s and V6s. I could be wrong... but probably, most likely not, as far as I know. |

I will post a picture of it. I've used the 14 metal teeth pistons now, and it seems to be working. I have a feeling it will fail very soon.
Sorbo Pad / neo pad, and stock spring.

Using a piston with a full metal rack doesn't SOLVE your problem, it only creates new ones.
If you're still having failures due to BBs jamming, then having a full metal rack will either cause a mechbox jam which required the anti-reversal latch to be unhooked to fix, break a gear post, burn out the motor, or tear the metal rack off the piston. |
