Moving Out to Different City

Hi. I live in Abbotsford, BC. I own a full metal DBoys M4 RASII CQB airsoft rifle with accessories. In the next few months I might move out to some city in Nova Scotia or Ontario. How can I bring my rifle with me?

Spent nearly $360 on that rifle. I surely wouldn't want it to get seized.

Any help would be appreciated.

Canada Post should be fine, just make sure you insure your package for the full amount. Most Canadian retailers ship guns and have no issues.

It would have been fine if I was travelling by car, I think. But I'm flying. The guys in the airport who do X-Ray scan for the luggage might think it's a real firearm and cause me problems.

Technically it is legal, and airlines would have their own regulations for such things. It's safest to ship and have it insured. You can also request for Canada Post to hold the package briefly to ensure that it arrives after you do.

Just make sure there are no gun markings on the outside of the box. Retailers will either put the original gun box in a larger cardboard box and pack it with foam, or flip the original box inside out and ship it that way. If you have a hard gun case, cover it up with some pink disney princess wrapping paper and ship it that way =P.

Okay, if you're flying then mailing it easiest. Canada Post, Greyhound, you pick. Just make sure the box is adequately protected with no identifying marks on the exterior.

I would point you to the FAQ but some genius mod/admin deleted a whole bunch of the threads there, including the "How to fly with your airsoft thread".....<sigh>

Anyway, I've been flying with airsoft items for over a decade, here is what you do;

1. Bring rifle to the airport in a gun case, unloaded, no battery in it; gun case must be locked.
2. Inform the person at the check in counter that you are travelling with a firearm and request to fill out a "firearms declaration form" (it's yellow).
3. Fill out the form.
4. Keep your copy.
5. Bring your rifle to oversized baggage.
6. The dude there will scan it, you may be asked to open the case ( i was one time, turns out the scanner fellow was from bosnia and the AKM I was transporting caught his eye, two RCMP officers showed up asked me to take it out of the case. Everyone took turns checking it out with "cool" and "neat" being the comments of the day, and I put it back in my case and it was on it's way to the airplane.

Kokanee speaks the truth and you can fly with it easy.

However if you are already flying with a number of bags and parcels, checking the gun case as extra luggage at the Airport might cost as much as shipping it. So shipping it might save a small hassle, time and money in the Airport.

One thing to be aware of if you ship it would be your potential lack of identification. I doubt you will have a new drivers license yet. If delivery fails for some reason (ie driver is lazy and doesn't want to make the attempt) and is held at the post office for pick up, if you don't have proper ID or proof of address for your new location they may not release the package to you at all. If you can mail it to a friend or family member who already lives there it might be better option if you go the shipping route.

Just my obsolete two cents.
