Painting a clear lower receiver

Yeah I started painting the insides it started dripping pretty bad down the magwell, bad technique maybe. But I dont even think you would see the dripping from the outside right? and thanks winterises.

So while everything was all dissassembled I decided to sand the bolt/hop up cover and polish/seal after. But i cant seem to get into the little grooves. Anybody know of any kind of metal turpentine kind of compound?

you could use paint/varnish remover and let it sit for a few minutes. After that it should just come right off with a wire brush or steel wool.

Yeah Im going to have to buy some paint/varnish remover tommrow. So turns out walmart had the krylon fusion camo but no clear coat matte. Went back to michaels and got possibly the wrong matte clear coat. I sprayed my upper with can warm and shaken and I got some sort of snowflake effect. I tried to wipe it off quickly and rubbed off part of my paint job in the process. :kill:

That didn't happen to the otherside or my pistol grip. said **** that im not gonna risk spraying my lower. So after some sanding and painting again I got it looking decent.

Also when I got it all back together I fired it, I had a OHHHH WTF?!?! moment when it would fire with a high pitched kinda screatch. Pulled the motor jammed her back in real good and got it back to normal.

sometimes you get a shit can of clear... I had that exact same issue repainting a set of wheels for my car... it basically ruined a few days of work, I had to sand back down to metal and reprime, repaint and re clear.

shake it well.... and when you think you've shaken it enough, let it sit a minute and shake it more.

Also, test the quality of the clear, so prep a scrap piece of anything, similar material to what you're actually painting would be better. prep and paint it exactly the same method of your final piece, and apply the same clear as you would the final piece after paint has had time to dry.

You'll know if you have a shit can or not. At least it's easy to sand and blend a portion back in... if you were using metallic flake or pearl paints.. good luck blending.

This is the best painting advice for any paint job. Another thing to add is that materials are cheap. So dont be a cheapscape and do a half ass job because you are afraid of wasting materials. Its best to do it right than to do it half assed.
