It's easier to install the battery if you take down the gas block. It's finicky but with some practice it gets easier. I have a Type 56-2.

I left mine stock but i did buy it used. I'm using Intellect stick batteries in both my RS Type 56 and KA Galil SAR (It was finicky too and I did cut down the gas tube on that one just a smidge).

I wouldn't remove the clear wrap, I just checked my 56-2 and you have to cock the battery wire to the left but it goes in no problem.

My Type 56-1 does this same thing, and its the one thing I hate about it... the fucking lack of space for all batteries except stick LiPo's! You'll probably have to sand the gas block down a little for an easier fit. I'm stuck taking the upper hand guard off and sliding the battery in that way.

Real sword makes a battery (9.6v 2000mah) that fits quite nicely with little hassle.

DO NOT remove or damage the clear wrap on your battery. Make sure the wires on the battery are down and to the left when you put it in, it can be finicky and require some patience until you get the hang of it just work it in slowly. If you look at the gas tube (upper handguard) you can see a cut out for the wires to pass through (bottom left), the battery is meant (but not necessary) to be slid into the gas tube. Sliding the battery into the gas tube will make the dust cover easier to close as you won't have an excess of wires to deal with. There is little room for error or a battery that in not straight with all the cells lined up perfectly. You may find that a little strategic dremiling will make the process less cumbersome.

All type 56's have them, the rear one is kinda annoying at first but you get over it. Try using the pad of your finger the take up the "loose slack" and cut down an allen key to make it fit in easier.

The tolerances are tight. I had to file and grind both my 56 and 56-1 in the gas block and in the slot in the gase tube. Sharp as can be... Steel, baby, yeah!

LCT RPK same issue. Put in a battery when I first assemlbed it and smoke starts pouring out of the upperhandguard. The side of the slot in the gas tube sliced into the wire causing a short. Battery was toast! Same tweaking as my 56 and 56-1 and all is well.

I have both Firefox and Elite stick batteries. The RS 2000mah 9.6v would have been my choice had I known about them 3 years ago.
