Vest selection help

I trying to plan/build my standard kit, it's not going to be based on a specific unit. I was wondering what would be a better idea for a vest/PC/chest rig. I already use a CIRAS land, but it's slighty too bulky over the shoulders. I plan on carrying 6 - 8 M4 mags in shingle pouchs, a utility pouch or two, an admin pouch, a MBSS hydro pouch/backpack, and maybe some pistols mag pouches. I was thinking of a SPC, LBT-6094, or a Wasatch/Weesatch/WSH with back panel. Could you guys with experience with more than one type of vest/PC/chest rig compare the advantages, disadvantages, and different features. I know somebody or some people will say “Try on different vests and see what works best.” The only vests in my area that I know of are AAVs, CIRAS land, and one FAPC. I looking at getting the rig in coyote brown.

edit: I looking replica gear because I can't afford $200 and then buy the pouches.

If you want to shred bulk and speed up, chest rigs are pretty much the way to go.

http://www.predatorarmament.com/prod...By-Ares-Armor- Here's a good example of a simple chest rig.

Other options would be a small plate carrier. I use the Banshee PC from Shellback Tactical and it's pretty awesome. Sure it doesn't cover as much, but it's smaller and gives me a ton more mobility than anything else I've used.

If you just want a good molle platform:

Hope that helps a bit.

Chest rigs pretty much take the bulk out of the equation and strip you down to just the essentials. So they're good at making you a bit quicker, however, the lack of additional coverage might be an issue for some. The smaller plate carriers tend to be good at carrying a lot while keeping bulk down and mobility up, but suffer the same coverage issue as chest rigs. A good medium sized PC would be your best bet (the SORD one above is great and decently priced), as it will allow you to have room to add stuff while being fairly mobile.

Firewalker, thanks for the input, but the vest bulkiness isn't a problem, and I personally have a preference for armor carriers (CIRASs, RAVs, AAVs, etc).

I'm looking for an 'in the field' review of then heavier/larger rigs. At 5'11, 240 pounds, a light rig won't help me be any faster, and I like the direct action spec ops feel I get when I were my CIRAS. After playing alot more CoD4 recently I'm starting to really like the look of the Wasatch/Weesatch rigs with a back panel.

I getcha.

Well, I can't help you there, I've only worn the Wasatch (which was quite comfortable) once, out of those up there. I didn't like the overall fit on me at the time (I since have grown to like chest rigs, lol), so I didn't end up buying it.

If I could change your mind, I'd recommend looking into SORD's products. They're a bit newer on the scene, but they have some interesting options:

http://www.sordusa.com/shop/home.php?cat=15 - Back Panels

You can essentially pick and choose your own rig to your own requirements. It's pretty badass. And if you need multiple options for multiple engagements, you can opt to purchase more than one modular element. I've not yet had a chance to play around with their SCS items, but their pouches are pretty much invincible. Just adding another choice for you to pick through in case you can't decide.

Sorry Firewalker. I thought I had posted about buying replica, but this SORD stuff might just fit my budget.

I've gone through like 7 vests myself.

The best advice I can give is get out and game. You'll find what works - what you need - and the quickest way to access it.

Use something that works for you.

I run a 6094 with 3 double mag pouches. Nice and light and good protection.
Also take into account how many rounds each mag holds. Higher the count - less to carry.

Molle for just about anything you need. Mind you this is a lower end quality one compared to the one I have but it should do the trick.

I plan on using any thing 30 rnd real-caps to 120 rnd mid-cads, but I'll probably be using 68 rnd mags. Personally I like the feel of my CIRAS land (MC), but I'm looking at a coyote brown or khaki rig so I can use it with a MultiCam, MARPAT, or AOR1 kit, so I'm trying to find what a might be a good alternative for my CIRAS.
