AK-47 gear box ugrades?
would it be a good idea to buy metal bushings for my ak gear box to align the gears better so the general wear and tear is reduced? i hear that is usually a good idea to get more life outta the gear box. also what other parts usually break that should be replaced eventually?

yes. metal bushings (if plastic is in place) should be your top priority (as of now).
what brand, model and style of AK is it? with such limited information, its going to be hard to help. |

how much money do you want to throw at upgrading it?
if you're going to put in new busings do some general maintenance: -completely clean and re-grease the mechbox and components -re-shim -inspect the switch assembly for damage from arching/use. replace as necessary -inspect wiring for damage. specifically areas where it bends or is exposed to grease/oil and the opening for the pinon. replace as necessary -inspect gears from broken or worn teeth. replace as necessary -inspect piston/head, cylinder head and nozzle for damage and compression. replace as necessary -check that the AR latch isn't worn. replace as necessary -etc... Or if you're me, forget doing the maintenance and just pull everything out and drop in new parts. lol |
