Long to short range shooting
A few guys run the Cadex Red Dot/Flashlight mount and I wanted to show everyone how it works.
The mount holds a red dot sight as well as a flashlight. The flashlight section is also removable with the push of a latch, with allows for handheld use of the light. This is how the whole package goes together To use, it just requires the canting of the rifle slightly to go from the long range scope to the red dot like below. This works for anyone who needs to switch from long to short range or the other way around. Sharpshooters moving through a building to get to their hide. Hunters who find they just got snuck up on, or pushing the bush only to have it open up with a longer shot.

That's sick but IIRC from my experience doing target shooting aren't you supposed to *not* cant the rifle? Interesting idea but I guess you'd somehow have to tune the Red Dot in a way so that point of impact or whatever the concept is, is correct based on how much you're canting the rifle to be able to see the red dot?
Nonetheless it's a cool idea and I'm sure a lot of thought went into it.

neat....you can also index off your scope turrets in a pinch.
Cant'ing (?) shows most of an effect on shots at range...in point shooting ranges not so much...and if the the RDS is positioned directly above the bore (i.e. it's off set too)...then the sight isn't canted relative to the bore. This isn't airsoft...real bullets start dropping as soon as they leave the barrel, the degree orientation of the barrel itself doesn't matter...only matters in relation to the sight/optic mounted on the rifle/gun. Can't really tell from the pics...but it looks like the RDS is offset. If it was right on with the top rail it'd really bugger your sight picture through the scope. |

How much of an advantage is it over putting a small dot sight on top of the scope?

Though a question to the OP, is this made for a leftie? As a rightie I'd find it odd to cant the rifle with the grip to the left. |

Both sights are sighted in differently. Quote:
It's much quicker and easier to pick up this way. Quote:
