Royal Canadian Army?

The captions are a bit off, but it's good to see the boys from Manitoba represent Canada at this EX. Maybe this is a sign Ottawa is prepared to shift forces from the Atlantic side of the nation to the Pacific, where they're more likely to be needed...

Call me the "picky" sort, but shouldn't they have switched over to the OD flags? I know we were always told the red/white was for garrison while the OD was for the field.

Bah, it's really just me being picky LOL. Love the pics Mike!

Since they're called the Non-combatant Evacuation Operation unit I would guess the non-subdued flags are a conscious choice. The old heart on your sleeve routine.

In such situation where you go in with intention to extract non-combatants, for example your citizens in let's say ... Libya or Syria (just a random pick of the two world countries), and have no intention to fight, you want to flash your flag on your shoulder. You want both the civilians you're trying to evacuate and the local forces know who you are.
Unless you don't....

On the other hand, nobody really gives a damn, whether it be a humanitarian patrol or planned combat mission, I've seen a mix of both.

I would think flag is a visual cue for the civi's. There is no "oh those guys are in CADPAT so they're here to rescue us" type of internal conversation going on with folks in a war zone, and the local population may not speak English but chances are good they'll recognize the flag.

I'm being an optimist here and putting this on someone smart up the chain of command.

Like I said, it's probably just me being picky (and curious). I know in the 90's (maybe even earlier) it was standard practice for the CF to have red/white flags on everyone going overseas. It could very well have been for ease of identification for civi's being "rescued".

Yes, the '90s were big for Croatia/Bosnia. And the CF wasn't there to pick a fight, so they made sure they wore obvious foreign flag and let everyone know who they are.

So that's why my plane keeps going to Hawaii... Thought Rimpac was more geared towards Naval exercises...

I started thinking that the pilots thought they deserved some days on the beach...
