My Reading of the Firearm act is that replica firearms are illegal to aquire or import, not own (I'd have to dig out the documentation if anyone wants it). So painting an existing gun black is not illegal as you aquired it legally and it's a modification.

However, Like above people mentioned... keep it out of sight and treat it like a real firearm. Buy the firearm act a replica weapon must be trasported like a real firearm (out of sight and locked in vehicle). And it is a mortal sin to do a crappy paint job.

by all means, its legal to own or paint your airsoft black as long as the cop dun see it, and no one complain about it... it just not a good idea to...!!

because i checked with my local firearm officer, they are OK with clear, or frosted white receiver

however even the canadian tinted ones, they will consider it as realistic, which means, if you holding on to it and somehow have the barrel pointing to a officer, they WILL SHOOT

and for the canaidan, we dun need orange tip, its for u.s.

at last, for any traveling outside your house, please do use a box or bag so no one see it

To be frank, what you were doing is actually illegal. A lot of people shoot airsoft guns in their backyard though.
