You HAVE to admire a man who builds his own boomstick, he ain't shopping at S'Mart, he is gittin' er done, HIS WAY.

So... after few months waiting for the parts..... here is my completed MK18 mod1 !

Pictures:

Had some fun with Photobucket's editing tool:

Here's the complete part list:

- G&P m4a1 metal body (thanks to Karma for importing it)
- G&P crane stock
- RA-tech NPAS complete bolt (thanks to Ujiro)
- RA-tech Bolt catch (thanks to Ujiro)
- RA-tech heavy recoil buffer (thanks to Ujiro)
- RA-tech hop up rubber
- RA-Tech Aluminum Nozzle Tip
- Socom gear DD mk18 RIS II (FDE) rail (thanks to DBSpotter)
- Socom gear barrel nut for G&P receivers
- 5ku multi length outer barrel set
- G&P WA Reinforced Assemble Parts for WA M4 GBB (Frame Set)
- G&P WA SPR Cocking Handle for WA M4 Series (PRI laser markings)
- G&P 6.08mm Inner Barrel w/ Hop Up Chamber Set for WA M4A1 Series (A, 300mm)
- PRO-WIN magazine
- G&P KAC sights (Thanks to KLusTeR)
- G&P WA Steel Sling Adaptor for WA M4 Series
- ARES M16A2 Type Pistol Grip for M4/M16 GBB (BK)
- MAGPUL PTS MOE Polymer Trigger Guard for M4 GBB / PTW (note: you have to "drill" another hole to fit the rear trigger guard pin, at least on G&P receivers....)
- DYTAC Carbine Gas Tube for M4 Series (Length: 221mm)
- G&P VLT Low Profile Gas Block for M4/M16 Series
- 5ku Steel ball bearing hammer (had to mod it a little around the end, so that the full auto sear could properly catch it...improves bolt cycling smoothness by alot! )
- No name KAC silencer (similar to the AABB one)
- Hurricane EOtech 553
- Pro&T PEQ-15 (FDE)
- Element Dual Switch (FDE)
- Element M3x (FDE)
- Larue Style Rail Covers (FDE)

Still need to install (maybe one day... dunno):

- AABB 245 mm inner barrel (needs lots of sanding... lol)

Known problem, need to fix:

- RA-tech rubber doesn't seem to work well... cant adjust the hopup setting... maybe the nub inside the rubber is too small... well it does seem like it.... So I ordered a brand new G&P rubber, and a JDT rubber to try them out...
- Need more mags... cant wait for Ehobby to restock the King Arms ones
- Cold weather...lol

Special thanks to:

- DBSpotter (a truly nice guy to deal with )
- Ujiro
- Yannos
- Karma
- Kluster
- Ehobbyasia
- Tokyo-Model Company
- EBairsoft
- Toy Soldier Workshop (only retailer that had the Element m3x in stock)

NICE build man! Love it. I have an Mk18 MOD 1 based on an ARES electric AEG but I think you got me beat!

The only thing missing is the Tangodown Mk46 vertical grip! I believe the Mod Block guys are currently using the Mk46 anyway.

OH! And if you paint it, the real Mk18 MOD 1's I've seen are two-tone. The upper is black but the lower is rattle can dark earth.

I was under the impression it was because they were using their old lowers which most were already painted BUT they were told they could NOT paint the new uppers yet.

Sure seems to have caught on though, some Airsoft companies are now selling two-tone custom Mk18's and I see them that way in videogames now too!

Couple pictures of a real Mk18 MOD 1.

And personally, I'm not a big fan of vert-grips

Yup youre right juicy... I was able to fix the leak on my prowin mag yesterday, but couldn't really test it out, since cooldown would kick in after few shots in semi... :S

(and it was only 10celcius outside... :S (I dont have that problem with my ksc system7 mp7 though... ))

Your right, there are a lot of Mk18's that are all black BUT most of the guys on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq had painted their M4-A1's tan before they got there Mk18 Mod 1 uppers.

Was just saying!

I personally like that weathered combat look.

WOW! Paul you did an amazing job brother. It's nice to see someone build their own beauty from the ground up, it's inspiring. Thank you for the kind words too, I am just happy to help a fellow airsofter out

UPDATE!!!!

For the past few months, I've upgraded the gun for better performance and better looks, so here's a list of what has been changed:

*Internals:

- G&P stock hammer (the 5ku one with bearing didnt work well in full auto....)
- Ares Lightweight aluminum buffer (the Ratech heavy recoil one is WAYYYY too heavy = intense cooldown + it was using too much gas)
- G&P 10 inch aluminum outer barrel (the 5ku one was 1cm longer, and it wasnt straight!..... (tilting up about 2-3°) + aluminum is lighter then steel! )
- G&P 280mm inner barrel (no more brass inner barrel sticking out! )

*Externals:

- Ares aluminum QD flashhider (for KAC silencers) (CW)
...... - since G&P barrels are CW, not CCW
......... - TIP: used an O-ring to properly secure the flash hider!
- G&P QD raider foregrip (Sand) (gun is soooo front heavy that it needed a vertical grip...lol)
- Small QD RIS raiser mount (for the m3x) (since the Element "qd thinggies" on the m3x replica are flimsy and a pain in the a** to use....)

Now for the pics:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've also been working on a 2nd upper receiver for my gbbr, and here's what I've used:

*Internals:

- G&P hopup unit & rubber
- RA-tech 6.03mm tightbore barrel (length: 363mm)

*Externals:

- G&P upper
- Huang Larue 12" RIS
- Iron airsoft 16" outer barrel (silver) ("polished" it to a "brushed steel" finish = much better IMO )
- JP rifle flashhider (looks bada$$ to be honest... )
- Leapers 1-4x28mm long eye relief scope with green/red illuminated reticle (sorry didnt have enough $$ for a RS Leupold Mk4 scope.... but still...5" eye relief ftw!!!!)
- Element Larue QD SPR scope mount
- Bomber Troy front and rear sights
- G&P VLtor aluminum gas block (took the one from my mk18 build.... :P)

Now here are some pics:

As I said in the M16 thread, that's sexy!

A few notes:

If you want it to be accurate, swap the QD Battlegrip to a non-QD version. And get the right rubberband (I'm half joking there )
AFAIK the correct pistol grip for the Mk18 Mod1 is the one without the finger notch (yes that means that my build is wrong too), althought that's a small detail that could be considered personal preference...

For the M3X you've got a pretty nice solution, but another one, whatver you prefer, would simply be to use a ziptie. You may have notice the groove on the M3X (which can also be seen on the PEQ15 and dual tape switch), that's exactly the intended purpose with either zipties or paracord, but I personally prefer the first option as it's more secure.

Pfff.... fkn rubberband freak... (all I can say is that your guns are accurate to the rubberband... :P)

And for the non-QD version, Tried the KA one, and it wobbled too much, so I decided to go with the QD one.... :P

For the pistol grip.... meh, Ive seen it with both...lol

As for the M3x QD mount base, I saw a pic of an actual US soldier using it....

I saw the real TangoDown Battlegrip for 30$ on eBay the other day. I'm pretty sure the G&P and KA are in the same price range :P

As I said that's a good idea for the M3X, I just figured I'd suggest it just in case (that'd probably be 200g less on the front with a ziptie).

True, both have been seen for the pistol grip. And even a few TD and G27 grips, but not often.
