That tape's available at any Home depot or wherever, but it's like 10 - 15 bucks a roll, I include enough of it to attach the protector to whatever you need

HOLD UP ON BUYING IT.

I jsut put in brand new batteries that are NOT E2, but they are branc new standard energizers.

In my room, which has the energy saving bright coiled bulbs, it has on supreme quality, crap video image.

I will post ar fast as I can.

then again....it might be too dimly lit still, maybe it needs sunshine lighting.

I will post the room video, and then Ill post a video of me tommorow morning.

hmm....couldnt they have jsut put a little effort into the build of the body rigidity wise AND filtering black light wise...kinda annoying. So for cqb this camera is a no go, unless u got good flashlight....

Most of the written or video reviews have all said the same thing: this is meant to be an outdoor camera.

if you're expecting high quality video indoors, you will be disappointed.

I can't take any responsibility if you guys didn't do your research on this product... and the same thing holds true for anybody who still hasn't paid me yet - I will still give you a negative if you decide not to pay me for your order after reading these "new findings."

Video Shooting Tips
Because the Tachyon XC is an action camera, it is tuned for shooting in sunlight. So for the best looking videos, try to shoot your action when the light is good.

I did some indoor test with it with barely any light and it took me 30 seconds of tweaking in Windows Movie Maker to get something that was viewable.

The human eye is VERY capable of seeing in very dark areas (your room with energy saving lights). A forest should provide enough sunlight for good quality video. Test it.

I have built my own helmet mount for this camera, based on the Streamlight Vantage fire helmet light clamp. I've since painted this black. Pics below:

I'll be posted some response video shortly.

The clamp hanger I built uses a aluminium clothes line tensioner, which is cut into a U shape. I then used a tap to make two screw holes at the appropriate points. I then took the camera mount that came with the unit and dismantled the lower mount portion and cut the mount at the appropriate angle, tapped and screwed that mount to the U clamp and voila - fire helmet clamp.

In this position it records upside down, but in editing I can flip it no problem.

In my testing I've found that the low light levels on this camera are typical of second generation CCD units, which is expected. However, I also have a Streamlight Vantage light on my helmet and tried this in the dark and it works pretty good as a spot illuminator. I think out of everyone here, I'll be putting this to the most punishing tests, wet, cold, heat and flame. We'll see how it holds up shortly.

So far for the cost of this unit, I am very happy with it.

The only issue you run into with my light is that its really a tac light - very bright and not very diffuse - so you get a bright spot in the middle surrounded by a circular visible ring. If you use a more diffuse light you'd get a better image. Also in post production I find the gamma on the output file is a little low - if you bring the gamma up about 10% the image improves substantially - other than that for the size of the unit, it works well.

Just got some on an alarm call. Had to do forcible entry through a window and then look for the alarm cause. Unfortunately due to my unfamiliarity with the controls, I missed the initial response on the truck but I got the rest of it, just cutting a vid now.

Lens protectors are ready!!

This is an extremely limited production run, I will only be making about 8 or 10 of these things!!
Comes with super-strong aluminum foil tape to insure the protector is secured very snugly.
The protectors will not change the image quality! They are crystal clear!! (Just remember to remove the white protective coating on both sides!)

The material I use is strong It broke the cutting bit on the tool that I use... and it broke the replacement bit... so I'm off to get a new cutting tool!
