Making a VSS VINTOREZ

Serious Anime' fans are excused from the next few paragraphs' reading. Skip Down if you swooned over the

Final Fantasy Girls, and actually picked a favorite. I like the first one. No, no, the...Oh, I guess I DIDN't decide...Ah Fantasy, all three can ride my motorcycle!

No, a VSS Vintorez is not a small boat, or a giant frigate:
From my "auxiliary lobe", Wikipedia:

The VSS Vintovka Snayperskaya Spetsialnaya or "special sniper rifle"), also called the Vintorez ("bolt cutter"), is a suppressed sniper rifle developed in the late 1980s by TsNIITochMash and manufactured by the Tula Arsenal. It is issued primarily to Spetsnaz units for undercover or clandestine operations, a role made evident by its ability to be stripped down for transport in a specially fitted briefcase.

Ingredients:
1 airsoft "Dragunov", clone OK.
1 Cereal box (for making test parts)
1-2 sq. ft. 3mm / 1/8" ABS plastic (for making actual parts)
2 ft, of 2" ABS tubing
Determination

In keeping with my mostly pics (worth 1k words each, right) doctrine, here we go.

Again, WHAT:

Questions?

And...Can somebody point me to a good list of anime' with this baby in it?

O.M.G.... THANKYOU!!!!!

I was thinking of doing a custom build.

A few questions though about the internals. Is that a custom build or did you heavily modify a base gun (eg. AK Beta Spetz, AK 74U, etc.)?

What kind of barrel/suppressor combo did you use and what length? In my build I was thinking a 229mm barrel with a suppressor.

What parts did you fabricate? It doesn't seem like anyone sells a VSS stock so I'm thinking I might have to fab one myself (in addition to possibly fabing a "suppressor").

What kind of material is that white stuff? Just want to make sure that's foam board cause I've got some of that stuff kicking around from some old projects. Also did you use moulding putty or how did you make the "contours" and not look so boxy.

How are you planning to wire the battery? Into the suppressor? Possibly a PEQ? Rear wired? I know another guy who made a VSS offset his suppressor so that he could wire his battery to the front inside his suppressor right on top of his barrel.

It was sold un-finished for $350, I never DID decide where a battery would fit.
White stuff is Oatey Grey 2-part epoxy putty.

The base gun is a Dragunov MPEG from airsplat, about $100.

It's all stock under the skin, except for the MOSFET rewire.

The rear stock comes on the Drag, and I shouldn't have painted it black.

Alright well thanks for the reply man.

I'm kind of leaning toward doing a custom build piece by piece except for major components but that's proving to be partly futile since I can't find a complete V3 gearbox so I might have to just piece together one.

I was also thinking that wasn't a "true" VSS stock but I gave you the benefit of the doubt and allowed you "artistic license". Looks like I'm gonna have to either fabricate one or just use a Dragunov stock.

I for one think you should have kept the wood however the black stock makes it look more modern and have that kind of tactical "Special Forces" look.

Oh yeah... Also as for an anime where a VSS is used I haven't seen the whole Gunslinger Girl series but it might be in there. Otherwise it could appear in Full Metal Panic. NOTE: That is NOT related to Full Metal Alchemist in any way at all.

The VSS wasn't in the anime, may be in the gsg manga; but I'm still reading it.
I think it was in full metal panic though.

The magwell parts are bonded with ABS cement. Yes, that's Rustoleum texture paint.

^^^

It looks like the only "short" AK mags that I've been able to find are the short "AK Beta Spetsnaz" mags made by TM. However I'm sure other companies make them too.
