M4 Upgrade Question
Im new to airsoft, and i bought a used Stock SRC M4, and i was wondering what my options are.
Things id like to do: Change the Full Stock to a Collapsable Stock (Cause it looks cooler) Upgrade the performance Add Attachments to the RIS Get The Hop Up Cover Rod to have a spring so when i release it, it springs closed again. (the part on a real m4 that loads the first round into the chamber) So Im looking at performance parts, and im thinking, theres soo many to choose from right? so what do most m4 people upgrade first that makes the biggest difference? And which Tac Lite Should i get for my gun? (Im starting a night fight in a few weeks, so i need one) And I work with electronic repair alot, so i have access to alot of part suppliers for electronics. Does that mean i can go find a better moter and battery and hook it up? or am i limited to airsoft parts? And if so, what kinda things do i have to look for? Ooh, and theres that little button on the side, that doesnt do anything (normally used to clear the chamber on a real m4) im thinking of making that the switch for my tac lite ^^ whatcha guys think? Basically anything you can tell me about the SRC M4 would be appreciated Cheers, DarkAngel

If you look in this part of the forums, your answers are in the Pinned topics.
External (cosmetic) options are up to you. Airsoft gun parts are pretty much airsoft-only. Batteries are another matter, same for fuses and wiring. What you attach where, and where you hide buttons, is your choice. I think using the forward assist button for a switch is a neat idea. Overall, start by reading the pinned subjects, and when you narrow it down to things that are really necessary, you will be able to ask more precise questions. PS changing the stock from full to other means (normally) going to a smaller type of battery with less amperage. You may want to think about what that means for performance upgrades in the future. The coolness factor can get in the way. |

thanks, i read your sticky, it answered alot of my questions. but i have a few more.
1) How do i know when my hopup is properly set, and how? 2) Is the spring the first thing most people upgrade? And which % spring do i use? I would like to have the max spring i can use on all the fields. (from what i seen, most people allow up to 450 fps) 3) Whats the best/Cheapest way to improve the accuracy? My goal is to make a Mid range rifle, (Reliable and accurate at close range) as well as the ability to pick people off with semi auto at a distance) so far, my iron sight is off, and i think my rounds seem to favour shooting a bit to the left. I read some of the stickys, but i dont completely understand them, and i would like to understand what the parts do, and what the numbers mean before upgrading/buying parts for my rifle. Any Suggestions?

First thing you have to upgrade are the bushings, get metal one.

Red wolf airsoft recomends this upgrade plan to make src guns up to marui durability:
1. Install Prometheus High Performance Spring 2. Systema Bearing Middle Gear 3. Systema Steel bushings 4. Systema Steel gears 5. Battery Compartment Mods 6. Fuse removal 7. Marui EG700 Motor This gun is not ment to upgrade beyond 420fps so i recomend you do not do so. However, i do recomend You upgrade the motor from an EG700 to a hammer 1300s from what i know they should make a high performance motor for the version 2 gearbox. The cheapest and safest way to do this is to get a m100 spring (330-350 fps) and metal bushings beyond that you should work on the other internals. Oh, and by the way dont buy a tak light just get a red dot scope it will hide your position and improve your accuracy. |

I dont know a whole lot about upgrading things, but most people go with Systema metal bushings. my 2 cents.

Dark one thing to keep in mind, is a lot of teams and game admins may not allow you as a new player to start off using a "hot" or upgraded gun this fresh into your Airsoft experience.
Out here all new players are required to play for 1 year minimum till the established Airsoft community of players feels he/she is mature and able to properly use and place their shots with an upgraded gun. Play stock for a while, you might be surprised and find that you do not need to upgrade. A lot of players never upgrade their guns, and out shoot and play a lot of players with upgrades. Its not the gun, its the person who makes the game. Upgrade the person first. |

thanks, i read your sticky, it answered alot of my questions. but i have a few more.
1) How do i know when my hopup is properly set, and how? You know by doing shooting tests, those are described in other threads. You need to read other stickies. 2) Is the spring the first thing most people upgrade? And which % spring do i use? I would like to have the max spring i can use on all the fields. (from what i seen, most people allow up to 450 fps) You need to read more, 400fps is a max almost anywhere, and a max is not like a goal to reach, it's a LIMIT for safety reasons. As was said in the thread, all you need is a spring and metal bushings. The rest is details. 3) Whats the best/Cheapest way to improve the accuracy? Adjusting your hopup properly, and learning to shoot. Yes, go to a game, see how the guns work, ask questions in person, do immediate tests of what you learn. If you read it all, it's time for you to go try stuff. |

Thank you, Ill play stock for a while, the reason i wanted to attach a tac lite was for playing night games. I heard from talking to people first hand that they found alot of their guns, tmp90tr and their commando, etc was just short of their expectations, so they recommended to me to upgrade, which is why i was considering it. i found from reading more most places have to 400fps, so when i do upgrade, ill be getting the m100 spring and try to shoot just below 400 so like 380-390ish. But like wiseowl reccomends, ill probobly keep stock for a while. Ive been waiting almost 4 years to get an airsoft gun ;p so u have to understand my erm.. love affair with it lol.
Thanks for all ur suggestions ;p
