Assault harness oil?
Hello, I picked up a surplus Assault harness at a garage sale today, the mag pouches and the belt seem to be oiled.Do you think that this will affect the plastic of my mags? I have yet to identify it, I might post some pics later.
Much obliged. Chris

oiled?
Does it look like dirty old sweat? I don't think it will harm your plastics. You can wash it in warm water to remove it from your harnest. My old CF webbing is kinda "oily" more like dirtied by years of hard work, Bug repellant and god now what. My stuff going in it is still looking good.

Dirty old sweat, no the shoulder pads/ webbing is fine.It seems like the mag pouches/rear pouch/main belt(with rivets for fastening) and the rear shoulder area have been treated with an oil type sealant.Tomorrow I will get some pics for identifiing the harness itself.

try dripping water on it and see if it just rolls off, a friend of mine got a can of this weird stuff from a garage sale it seems like some sort of army used it at one time but it probably hasnt been in service for more than 30 years.
but you put it on your gear or clothing and it makes it waterproof, the stuff smears all over and smells weird, but it does work rather well not advised though
