G17 Modifications, Accessories...

Hi guys,

I am looking for some advice in terms of what kind of modifications can be done for the G17. I recently got my hands on a TM G17 Custom, and I am planning to upgrade the slide, but are there any G17 owners out there that have some great suggestions to make the pistol even better?

I looked around online, and I found these two items I am thinking about getting :

- Milspex Tactical Stock Adapter for G Series
- MilSpex 3M EMG (Enhanced Magazine Grip)

For the Stock Adapter... It would be interesting to add a nice Magpul stock to my G17 I think... May look weird to some, but I think it'll look very "special".. However, I am not too sure if I can get this item imported... Any suggestions?

For the tape, I saw pictures on redwolf where they slap the thing on the grip of the pistol. I guess its just tape, so don't matter how you use it. I also feel I have a very good chance just ordering that thing right off the website and have it delivered to me as well.

An advanced thanks to everyone for their input.

accessories are up to you, but modifications... if you've just gotten your hands on it, why would you modify it already if you don't know its limitations? the TM glock 17 is great out of the box and is a fantastic workhorse of a pistol without the requirement of modifications for reliability or performance. Keep it stock, use it a few times till you realize that it can be improved in a specific area. The easiest way to break a new gun is to start modifying it.

Glad to hear its good and ready to go.

Thanks for the info and suggestion. I think I'll keep it a bit till sometimes gets worn down then.

I would suggest you stay away from an enhanced hammer spring, I firmly beleive it caused 2 of my blow back units to crack with wear( the part is called a piston housing in G17 parlance )and is impossible to find

Find a slide that is nice and light, and get the slide and outer barrel as a set. I'd not suggest Guarder as their tolerances are prettty loose.

Though other guarder parts like the trigger bar and mag catches and slide catch worked very well for me. The guarder hogue grip was also a winner in my books.

A tightbore inner barrel ( I had a PDI 6.01) is probably the single best improvement in performance.

It will increase some FPS and improve accuracy. mine shot lazer straight to the sights when hop was properly adjusted

You get the FDE or the FG? If you use the stock adaptor (if its the one I think it is), you'll have to pull off your magwell and you won't be able to use both at once. Might even have to pull off the thumb rests too. But then again, I'm not sure exactly which one you're thinking about is. I want 3M grippy tape on mine too, but all the parts I've been buying lately have made me lose sight of where my money really should be going... but that's beside the point.

First thing I put in mine was a Guarder steel trigger bar (mine died almost immediately - if yours hasn't by the first few days, you should be totally fine), TK hop twist inner barrel, Guarder loading nozzle (actually includes a floating valve/valve blocker/floating valve spring and is all preassembled - very consistent), and uhhhhhhhhhh, I think it is a "SA" piston head; one of the metal ones without any ports. And then came an Airsoft Surgeon diamond mag catch. And then... my slide cracked. Replaced it with a plastic replacement I'd bought with this in mind, and shortly thereafter ordered a PGC slide/barrel (it fits in a RS and clone Glock 17 Serpa now!) and a SA (I think) "200%" recoil spring that should be more likely rated 150%.

I really tried to keep it stock, but in the end, the only thing that was truly worth it was the TM Glock itself (maybe the trigger bar too, since mine was a dud).

The stock slide and piston on my glock was showing wear and cracks so I decided to metal it up with a PGC aluminum slide + barrel, 9Ball 150% recoil spring, I forgot what piston I stuck in there but the gun shoots like a dream now and like Juicy said, fits a BH Serpa holster nicely.

I wouldn't do any mods to the gun till it starts to break, the Glock17 is perfectly fine the way it is.

150 spring is something I was considering too. Fo slides I assume pretty much most are light?

I'm saving up for a comp+slide combo XD they cost a bit

The PGC aluminum slide I'm using on mine is very light, the metal is thin but durable. Sounds very satisfying too when it cycles.

Stronger hammer spring for me for some reason has always been needed. It doesn't take much for my gun to start light striking. And it had happened with all 3 of my TM Glocks(17, 26, and 18C). Some would suggest just bend the stock one, but it'll eventually yield back....

Doing some ordering from Redwolf on some pouches and shooting glasses(there's some nice Guarder ones on sale).

I am also throwing in a G17 loading nozzle and a spring guide with spring. But I'm going to take everyone's advice and run the thing till something breaks.

So, I'm pretty confident this would pass thru... but if anyone here can give me some reassurance that would be great.

Far as I know - No lower receivers, no "gun like" looking parts(I read some gear boxes got seized lol), no barrels(although no illegal, but lets not take the chance), no trigger looking like parts(cuz u know, anything with a trigger is a gun, right custom officer?).

I don't think this post is old enough to warrant a necro does it? heheh...
