Driving down to the states with all your heat

Apparently Buffalo has a pretty decent indoor field and I'm wondering since Buffalo is about an 1 1/2 away from me, is one possible to make a trip, cross the border police with all my tactical gear and heat, attend and game without being car/strip searched?

If this is possible, I don't see why I can't one day do a mega long trip to cali and attend some of those massive milsim games.

Yes. There is a special form you need to fill out though. I believe it is a Y59 or something, there should be a writeup about it in the FAQ section.

Note, don't bring ITAR restricted items or you won't be able to come back home with them.

Y38 is what its called there are a fair bit of threads on here regarding the process.

Call your Local CBSA office, book and appointment, bring your guns (in the appropriate cases/bags treat them like the real thing) they will either record your serial numbers and/or slap a tamper proof sticker inside the gun

Check out this post from QKLee11, where he's explaining to a (for all intents) Toronto based team, on how to get down to the US:

This is wrong, (Edit: This language was too harsh, apologies)

ITAR is an American EXPORT restriction, not a Canadian IMPORT restriction. THe US border guards going in are not checking for ITAR as your are IMPORTING goods into the US, on the way out, the Canadian border guards;

a) don't know what ITAR is; and
b) don't care.

I've personally imported ITAR items across the border in person many times when I lived in Ontario, and there was never a problem.

It's not necessary to comment on every thread, if you're not "in the know" just read the thread and move on.

When crossing the border with ITAR items, from the US to Canada, if a US "patrol" (whatever they're called) control you before you reach the border, you're SOL

What are these mythical "patrols" you speak of? The state troopers?

No one is going to confiscate or throw you ass in jail over a magpul stock.

ITAR's restrictions on retransfer blocked Venezuela's threatened sale of used F-16 aircraft to Iran in 2006.[28]

From Wikipedia......So if you are planning to transport some used F-16's your gonna have a bad time.

Just saying.

Kokanee is correct in both cases.
ITAR is administered by the State Department and is similar to our Controlled Goods Program.
Customs and Border Protection (the patrol?) has no interest or mandate in controlling goods coming into Canada and CBSA in Canada has no interest or mandate in enforcing ITAR.
The only thing any airsofter has to worry about regarding ITAR is that an American retailer will do its due diligence and not ship the item to Canada (or in some cases a UPS store where it's evident that the item will end up in Canada).
