It would help if you bought a German one. It's called a "Zeltbahn". They are actually cut a specific way to allow it to be worn as a poncho. There are lots of repros out there, but you can still find original ones pretty cheap.

I've got a poncho/shelter that is similar to this but a bit different. I want to know if anyone knows what type this one is:
Shape: http://picasaweb.google.ca/lh/photo/...eat=directlink Its 49 " tall, 139" wide (at points) The little rectangles are double slits. I think they are for arm holes. It has metal buttons and button holes all around, and about 20 metal grommets. Pattern: http://picasaweb.google.ca/lh/photo/...eat=directlink

Hmm, I think its a ground tarp or a tent shelter half. Snap two halfs together, run a rope down the center and you have a simple A-frame tent shelter.

That's what I was thinking. On its own it makes a good lean-to, with sides.
Just wondering if one of the experts here can identify who (german, italian..etc) that it was from. I bought it at a surplus store, that has alot of used stuff.

Thanks for the help guys. With all the extra info I was able to find this:
"Dackelgarage" Bundeswehr two-man-tent - One Sixth Warrior Forum It's a 1/6 scale version of my poncho/shelter. SO you can see how two of them would make a complete tent. Cool, now I need to make the poles and pegs. It will still work as a leanto shelter, since I only have one!

I have one. And its woodland camo. Its pretty simple to wear and use it as a tent. The size is square with buttons all around the edges and a hole with hood in the middle. Just snap all the buttons together and you can have it as a poncho. U might need a long stick and a few ropes to use it as a tent. I got mine from Beaver surplus on Dufferin close to Yorkdale Mall. If you leave around this area
